I’ll be honest, I had no idea this shit was going down right here in Camps Bay and Clifton! We’ve all seen the Newbie Bowls website before and it was only today that I looked out the car window and spotted the bowling greens from Victoria Road, overlooking Clifton and La Med! I remembered an invite I had recently received mentioning the “Glen Country Club.”

My God, I yelped, IS this it?!

Surely not?

I asked my driver to turn around and go down the La Med Road to have a look. And there it was, built like something out of The Godfather – “The Glen Country Club.”

“My GOD….that is cool…,” I whispered to myself, as visions flashed through my mind, conceptualising how incredible a day at these blowing greens could actually be.

The last time I played a festive game of lawn bowls was at Michael “The Wedding Singer” Furter’s bachelor party. Honestly, I can’t recall ever being happier. And those lawns certainly weren’t dangling over the Atlantic Ocean.

I mean, God, can you imagine? Sinking a few cold ones with your mates on a gorgeous Summer’s day?

Shame!

With the boys and girls all in shorts?

In the sun? Followed by the sunset?

Just off Victoria Road? Next to the sea?

Shame! It’s like playing Boules on the beach!

These guys have got it spot on! Never before has it made more sense for the younger lot to indulge in a bit of bowls. Heavens, it’s where “shooting some pool” wants to be!
