DAVE THOMPSON DROPS IDOLS BOMBSHELL
I was watching the Durban auditions of Idols last night on channel 198 and the farce seems to be going ahead for this, the fifth (God help us all) season. And whilst you might not remember who won last year’s competition, you needn’t worry as it looks like they’re finally closing up shop.

Dave Thompson suggests
Idols has been given a final chance
In an incredibly amateurish bungling err , Idols judge Dave Thompson let slip that there may well be no more Idols competitions after this one.
Following the audition of a slightly plump Durban girl who didn’t make it through, Thompson commented, “IF this competition continues after this year, please come back and try again.”
With only one out of the four past winners becoming CLOSE to being a household name (Heinz Winckler), it is QUITE evident that MNET bosses have given the team a last chance at making this abortion work; otherwise the series is over. Either that, or it IS over following this season. Why else would Dave Thompson to make the Freudian slip?
Unless his contract hasn’t been renewed and there is some bitterness?
Can you imagine Simon Cowell saying, “IF this competition continues next year…”
Please man, that would NEVER happen, even if it WAS true! That is the difference between professionals and our bunch of neophytes.
Randall Abrahams, for example, tried to have a go at a contestant after finding out that she was a music teacher. So he says to her, “Do you know the saying? Hey? Those who don’t do, teach.“

Randall Abrahams
“Those who don’t do, teach”
*FAIL*
No, no, no… You’re wrong Randall, you’re fucking wrong and you’re fucking clueless and an embarrassment to SA broadcasting and the country as a whole. The phrase is Those who can, do; those who can’t, teach. The general day-to-day short form (which it seems you were trying very hard to pretend to understand and use), however, is just the end part : Those who can’t, teach.
I mean how is it possible that the “Simon Cowell” of the group be such an imbecile? Surely that goes against the very fabric of the concept of the character? The thing that makes Simon Cowell good is he is QUITE clearly intelligent. He would NEVER make an error like that.
This show is a satire at best. SA’s IDOLS is basically the Spinal Tap of the world’s Idol competitions.
My left ball could do a better job than these clowns.

This is great!
I’m so glad someone’s saying something about this!
Idols is the worst show on TV, the only reason why it gets high viewership is because everyone’s at home, waiting for Carte Blanche and the Sunday night movie to come on.
And Dave’s not even half bad compared to Mara…
I mean, repeating all of Dave’s comments is surely not her job description. Surely she should inspire even the worst contestants with words of wisdom? She’s been in the industry for twenty-five years! And she can’t speak her mind?
Let’s have a little look at this professional losing it….And all professionalism.

watching this show for the first tim eas a middle aged adult, I find the judges inconsistent, pathetic and embarrasing. The one judge, Randall, should be put adrift at sea……..what a waste of time.

I agree, after watching Dave say to a contestant that the only reason he should ever open his mouth is to say “Would you like fries with that?”, as well as Randall’s overcompensating and frankly embarrassing demeanour; I wholeheartedly agree that this show has had its day, it failed, and needs to be canned.

Has anyone noticed that if it was up to Mara every secons loser would go through… Geez, she is Sooo impressed with every ther person, and the people that actually has talent gets snotty remarks and “witty- lame ass” comments, sometimes I wonder; Is it only “water” they serve them to drink…
I still find Gareth cute, when you leave the TV on mute

Idols – what drivel!! It is no wonder that it wont be entertaining us for yet another season, why piggy back on a US/UK module? If we absolutely have to have such a programme, why is it not very Seth African?
I nominate our very own Seth and Mavis who will undoubtably do a better job.

Guys/Girls
Why are you watching the show in the first place. It is SUMMER in Africa. You should be outside enjoying the weather and drinking beer at that time on a Sunday!

GG…you are totally wrong, you should be having a relaxing nap / quality time with your family and thereafter normal people go to church to give thanks to our maker and to be thankful of what we have. However you are right about one thing, it is summer and you should be having’ fun, but by 17:30 the lovely summer day would be over. I don’t blame the judges for their comments! They are definitely fair about what they say to the contestants, for in most cases it’s very true what they say. It’s never easy to hear that you SUCK, but rather be told that you suck early in the competition than just make an ass out of yourself throughout the show. That’s what judges are there for!

Is it possible for one person to be gloomy everyday? Why is Randall even in the show? And for Gareth, I saw Gareth on Noelene the other day dabling on earthical reporting in defence of the country’s president, I guess not only are you a music expert but you are a full on media guru (the less said about him the better)
In all I think the panel of judges have become a bit stale due to their predictability

Randall wants to come across as intelligent, but fails miserably with his spectacles of knowledge. He judges everyones appearance but looks like his wife buy’s his clothes at PEP.

yeah, i was disgusted with the previous series of idols when it came to light that one of the ‘wannabees’ were in the employ of the big and mighty media corporation that created the series locally to go make a fool of himself to boost ratings…as far as i can remember the judges knew!!!
