ELECTION POSTER FEVER
Jesus, the model and the scrabble champ
21.04.2009While the DA are running around wasting time banging their heads on the “Zuma is guilty” brick wall and pretending to be the most technically advanced party (although I’m sure even my grandmother would know to buy the .com version of their helpstopzuma.co.za website they registered), the other parties out there aren’t shy of entertaining us with their antics and posters.
My buddies at “Between 10 and 5″ (www.10and5.com) did us all a favour and got a general roundup of election posters put up on poles around Cape Town yesterday. You can go to their site (here) to get a full run down. I just chose a handful of my personal faves.
Let’s kick it off with this pearler – NEGLECTED?

UP – The Universal Party
That’s my personal favourite, right there.
I was not aware of “UP” - The Universal Party. I hope their theme tune is The Only Way Is Up by Yazz (here), otherwise it’s all a bit of a waste of time, I’d say. For me it’s not just the childrens’ book type sketch of Jesus with a couple sheep at his feet and the words “The Good Shepherd” written underneath. But more the party leader, Martin Fienies, holding out his hands the way Jesus might. As though he is a ball hair away from performing a miracle.
Small cult.
Moving on..

You’re a beautiful man.
Ja, look, obviously it doesn’t get much better than the hand on the chin pondering photograph. I mean, we do that when we’re messing around. You know, when you pretend to do the whole “GQ” look. It’s very funny. And even funnier when it is used in all seriousness.
Unless they are playing the fool? In which case I suggest we all vote for them on Wednesday as they are clearly hilarious and awesome.

Naughty, Thami.
Very naughty.
I don’t know. The election message is one thing – clearly appealing to the youth and offering the impossible. But I think there is something magical about a spelling mistake in the first word of the main message on your election campaign poster. Surely that is the most awesome thing ever? I mean, the IRONY! He’s TALKING about EDUCATION! It’s too beautiful.
Well done, various parties, on humouring us.
Good luck on Wednesday as we here at 2oceansvibe are 100% behind the democratic process. (On that note, check out this election video by the band Plush).

Thanks for the post Seth. I really loved the Afrikaans version of the Universal Party that says “Afgeskiep” hehe.

Hi Seth,
Awesome article, HOWEVER::
The person depicted as “book type sketch of Jesus with a couple sheep” is wearing a ‘Technicolor dream coat’!! Not Jesus at all. You’ve not been to church in a while, have you?

The last guy clearly made his poster on his bubble-jet at home and didn’t spell check before printing. He made his point though – cancel(l) student debt, because they’re bloody well not using the money for tuition… great post

Nice post, I wonder what I will win if I vote for the DA . I never heard of the first party before, looks like they neglected themselves.

The last poster also has a spelling error in the name of the party itself – “Movemment” – priceless
