  • BLUE BULLS WIN THE CURRIE CUP

Pretoria – The Blue Bulls won the Currie Cup at Loftus when they beat the Free State Cheetahs 36-24 in a lively and high-scoring final in which they controlled matters from the outset and were never behind.

The win for Blue Bulls coach Frans Ludeke, replaced as Lions coach three years ago after a string of disappointing results, was special and gives him the double after winning the Currie Cup and the Super 14 in a single year – and the franchise Bulls and the Blue Bulls of the union made this a day to remember in Pretoria.

The Blue Bulls were simply better than the visitors from the first minutes when they took a 7-0 lead to the end, with a few lapses in concentration letting in a game and at times competitive Free State Cheetahs side for three tries which kept them in the hunt.

The Blue Bulls held the Free State in the scrums and didn’t allow them the advantage in this facet and did more than their share at the breakdowns where the Bulls’ teamwork nullified the work of Heinrich Brussow on the ground.

They also had the better of the lineouts and, all in all, showed their experience with a more professional performance.

Man of the match Fourie du Preez had a major hand in all three tries and must now be arguably the best scrumhalf in South Africa’s history.

It was only three minutes before Du Preez put a corner kick to the right into the hands of right wing Francois Hougaard after it looked like a warranted penalty try following the ruck after Derick Kuun was tackled by Lionel Mapoe on the line.

The Blue Bulls seemed on a cruise to the biggest Currie Cup final score yet when they were ahead 24-0 after 25 minutes with three tries on the board.

But the Cheetahs, renowned for their fightback in the second half this season, came back with two excellent tries to creep to 24-14 after 35 minutes – and the game was on. A drop goal by Morne Steyn on the stroke of half-time saw the Blue Bulls go into the tunnel 27-14 ahead.

  • DAN NICHOLL GETS CLEVER – AS GREAT ODDS COMPETITION HOTS UP

Dan Nicholl also forms part of this Great Odds Celebrity Challenge I find myself a part of. Along with the likes of Kurt Darren, Corne Krige, Nick Feinberg, Darren Scott and others. A “motley crew,” you might say..

    To recap:

    Original article HERE

Some of you may have caught the headline the other day, directing you to an article Dan wrote about the minutes of a meeting we had with regards to the Great Odds challenge. The article is here and I recommend you read it. You’ll notice that that Dan Nicholl is trying to rally his troops to vote for him.

Whilst Dan may be something of a threat, I am more concerned about Nick Feinberg at the moment – who seems to have overtaken my (your) lead in the votes. This means that I (we) won’t be able to donate R10,000 to The MyLife Foundation.

    Screen shot 2009-10-30 at 7.18.47 AM.png

    Not ideal..

Seriously gang, we can’t walk around the streets of Cape Town with our heads held high if this is the case.

If you haven’t voted yet then just remember that your vote might be the difference between the kids at the MyLife Foundation getting R10,000, and not.

It’s quick, it’s easy. Follow the link – click to vote and you’re done.

CLICK HERE TO VOTE FOR ME which will immediately give a boost to your karma and general happiness – FACT.

Then I thought I would go one step further and feature the video right here for you to see. You know, for those of you (shame) who haven’t got to grips with following 2oceansvibe on Twitter, or keeping an eye out on the constant stream of photos and videos that appear on the 2oceansvibe Flickr page.

  • Sports Wrap with Chowgaps 4 + TV Times

So it’s official. The latest results reveal that right at this second, there are more Emos on the planet than ever before. Not only that, those in the know have suggested that the number will continue to increase significantly. Subsequent to learning this remarkable news, I lay awake last night trying desperately to define an Emo, until severe boredom sunk in.

    The first signs of EMOtion

    The first signs of EMOtion

So much so that I wondered through into the living room, settled on the couch with a glass of warm milk (because I didn’t close the fridge door properly the night before) and hunkered down to watch some woman on SABC something-or-other try to convince me to ring her, at only R400 a minute, to guess how many cats were on the screen. Not only am I poorer this morning, but I’m also no clearer on what an Emo is. I thought it was someone who dressed in something out of Sharon Osbourne’s closet and sniffed baby powder because it made you look like a rockstar.

  • Movie Review: Trick ‘r Treat (2009)

It’s Halloween again, which means you’ll either be scaring up a tacky fancy dress costume for a party or guarding your front door against a small militant wing of kids, who think they’re entitled to some of your hard-earned candy. I thought they were supposed to avoid strangers with candy!? Well, if it’s the one day of the year kids get to talk to strangers, then you get to watch a scary movie… wait for it… with the lights off.

    trick 'r treat

Muhuahuahua… *clears throat*. One option for the big night in is Trick ‘r Treat, a horror gem that seems to have slipped in under the door. “Trick or Treat” was a slogan for Halloween until it became a movie tradition even more synonymous with the creepy holiday than John Carpenter’s Halloween. That’s right, Trick ‘r Treat is an instant Halloween classic, which will no doubt receive an increase in reruns in the month of October each and every year.

Catch the rest of the review and the trailer after the jump…

  • SETH ASKS FOR A QUICK FAVOUR

    Hi gang,

In a very nice way, if someone sends you, say, a picture of a monster shark spotted in Mossel Bay (I’ve received 32 of these today) and the whole story and pics seem too mindblowing for words – they probably are. Do yourself (and 2oceansvibe as a whole) a favour and go to “GOOGLE” (very handy online tool) and search for the same thing, but add the word “hoax” on the end. In this case you would search for “mossel bay shark hoax.”

This is what you would get:

    Screen shot 2009-10-28 at 12.12.55 PM.png

When following those links you will notice that said incident and pics were nothing but a hoax.

This, in turn, would save me having to do that for you. By the very notion of you emailing me the “news” item, you clearly enjoy 2oceansvibe and probably want me to focus on delivering you real stories, without wasting valuable time on something that is utter tripe. Maybe meet me half way and check it out before sending it to me?

Are you getting the picture here?

    Help.me.help.you.

Just to reiterate, HERE’S another great website to explain further.

  • THE WALLY HERMES YACHT + VIDEO

As this week’s SuperEna lottery rolls over and presents us with a $115 million jackpot, one cannot help but ponder the various yachts one may acquire..

    Why, you ask? Exactly!

W.H.Y. – The Wally Hermes Yacht

    why-yacht-main-image.jpg

    No – it’s not a mansion, it’s a yacht..

WHY (Wally-Hermes Yachts), a collaboration between esteemed Monaco-based yacht maker Wally and the equally esteemed French fashion house, recently unveiled their first production, and it’s a beauty. While the yacht’s specs are top-notch (as expected), what really sets the this belle apart is its luxurious use of space. The interior features an open floorplan with a grand stairwell worthy of a cruise line, with multiple living spaces formed by particular arrangements of Hermes furniture. Perhaps the most stunning use of space is seen on the stern, arranged like a poolside, with interior cabanas facing the sea. Because of the quality and spaciousness of this vessel, Wally-Hermes’ claims that they were looking to create an island in the sea ring true.

Right up my street. I tell you! And it’ll be right up yours as well, after you win that R883 million lottery prize. That’s just under a billion Rand!

Perhaps you’d like to see the video of your new yacht?

    Very nice. Very nice indeed.

Be sure to check out more pics, specs and information at why-yachts.com.

And remember, if you’re not buying a few tickets for the big draws, then you’ve kind of missed the whole point of being able to live the holiday. Just like what is suggested in virtually every book about success (including the likes of The Secret and variations thereof), if you’re not able to visualise the success you wish to achieve, then you probably won’t get there. Being able to dream is the basis of all of these formulas – it unlocks the potential. Dropping a few bucks on lottery tickets is as basic as that formula gets.

Live a little – buy your lottery ticket safely online here!

    [thanks konrad]

Bowling for Movember is an opportunity for all those who have grown their moustache in support of Men’s Health Issues to show off their mo’s and bowling prowess in style. Full bar, DJs, café and sponsor stands which include a Dermalogica Skin Bar and WellSpa Massage Zone. There’ll also be a nurse and CANSA representative there on the day, who will have all the info you need on Prostate and Testicular Cancer.

It is estimated that 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer at some point in their lives. Prostate Cancer is the leading cancer in males and more than 4000 men are diagnosed yearly with prostate cancer in South Africa. Males over the age of 50 should have yearly screening.Testicular cancer is the most common malignancy of males aged 15 – 35 years. The incidence of testicular cancer is on the increase. In both Prostate and Testicular Cancer, early detection and treatment significantly improves the outcome.

All the money raised by Bowling for Movember is used to grow awareness of men’s health issues by the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA). CANSA uses funds raised for research, to increase awareness of the importance of early detection and to improve the support networks for those affected with prostate or testicular cancer.

    Here are some suggestions:

  • TUESDAY TABS #154 – YARA (MISS MAVERICKS 2008)

Well this is a first for the 2oceansvibe Tuesday Tabs department! We’ve brought you Tuesday Tabs every week for nearly three full years and have managed to maintain a certain level of quality and class. Sometimes the readers send in options for us to consider, and sometimes we find it ourselves. And I thought we had seen it all!

Quite recently we received an email from a reader (Dave M – thank you kindly) with a photo of the most beautiful angel we’ve seen for quite some time. There was no information on her and, following further requests, we were informed that the girl in question was a 21-year-old Ukranian angel by the name of Yara. But that’s not all – it turns out she is a dancer from Cape Town’s premier gentleman’s club, Mavericks! And what’s more, she also happens to be MISS Mavericks 2008! Whooah!

The reader had a contact who was apparently involved behind the scenes in the 2008 Miss Mavericks competition and had access to some high quality pics of said angel, Yara. We were very impressed with how classy the pics were and thought you would appreciate her featuring as this week’s Tuesday Tabs installment!

So here it is, ladies and gents, Miss Mavericks 2008, Yara!

    Yara – Miss Mavericks 2008

I’ll be honest – I’m very impressed! But not as impressed as you’ll be when I tell you that I had a peep at the Mavericks Website and can confirm that Yara is still very much a feature at the club!

    Nice.

    Real nice..

    [thanks dave]

  • “LUXURY 4 LESS” V.I.P. SHOPPING CLUB – RIGHT UP MY STREET! BUY DISCOUNTED DESIGNER BRANDS ONLINE

Don’t say I don’t tell you how and when to be at the right place at the right time.

I was contacted by the owner of an online company called luxury4less who have launched a very exclusive website offering a vast range of premium brands and designer products at massively reduced prices. But it’s not what you think – give this a moment..

    Screen shot 2009-10-23 at 5.45.00 PM.png

This is a genuinely clever concept that I’ve seen overseas and, in particular, the U.K. where I know of a few friends who indulge. You see they have limited quantity of each product, which allows them to achieve massive discounts.

They’re pretty up front with how the whole things works. You’ll get the idea once you’ve read this:

Firstly, all our products are genuine, the real stuff, guarantees and warranties are provided, where applicable, and we also guarantee a 100% return policy (T&C apply) in case we deliver the wrong item. Discounts are negotiated with our suppliers, and offered to our members since the products offered in our campaigns might be off-season (or close to off-season) products, overstock, slow moving items, or, a new product the supplier would like to test in the South African market as part of a promotion.

Fair enough. Nice vibe. I gave it a bash today and I’m happy to say the system works perfectly. I used my login (after receiving approval) and, with the dwindling supply of smellies at home, I checked out the fragrances.

Case in point, The Hugo Boss Energise fragrance that I was perving at the airport on my way back From L.A. in July.

    Screen shot 2009-10-23 at 5.28.15 PM.png

Due to the massiveness of the price reduction (40% off), there were only 3 in stock and the countdown clock (yes, there is a countdown clock) had 14 days to go. The price was set at R399 (rather than R660) and I’d be damned if I’d let this puppy slip through my fingers! I mean, seriously – R399? Those of you who buy premium fragrances will know that deals on fragrances should not be ignored. There is one rule – just get it – quickly – before it disappears.

So ja, that’s that – I bought mine and it’s on it’s way. But don’t panic – once those are gone, there are some others to go for – not that I can put my cock on a block that they will still be there when you get there!

Enjoy this screenshot, featuring everything from Lacoste and Joop! to Moschino and Happy Fizz:

    Screen shot 2009-10-23 at 5.42.48 PM.png

And those aren’t all of them!

What’s more, fragrances are just ONE of the product lines they have. Don’t even get me started on the sunglasses, gym equipment, holiday packages, bags, plasmas and more.

Seriously – everything is RADICALLY discounted – you’d be silly not to have a squizz.

I explained to the owner of the website that 2oceansvibers should be allowed membership and shouldn’t have to go through a screening process – so he agreed and gave me a special 2oceansvibe promotional code for you guys to give you immediate access!

So go to the website HERE and put in your details, followed by this promotional code 2oceans@luxury4less.co.za

Go on, give it a little click – they will have something you want and it will cost next to nothing – www.luxury4less.co.za

  • LOCALS BANNED FROM THE BAY HOTEL – CAMPS BAY

Saturday was a busy day down in Camps Bay, with some kind of celebration/event going on. Something by the name of “Spring Tide” – resulting in hordes of youngsters over-populating the Camps Bay strip and beach.

The Muse, The Photographer, Eddie S and I decided to take some refuge in the bar at The Bay hotel. It’s a lovely, cosy little bar with great views – a favourite amongst the Camps Bay locals throughout the winter, and summer.

We got to the entrance and got blocked by a security guard who informed us that only hotel residents were allowed access to the hotel.

    photo.jpg
The Bay hotel – Camps Bay
    Locals not welcome

“I beg your pardon?” I retorted, gobsmacked.

“Only hotel guests allowed. Hotel is full,” our security guard friend informed us.

“I can see inside the bar from here, it is completely empty. Are you joking?” I gave the guard the benefit of the doubt – perhaps we were being Punk’d.

“Instructions from management,” he went on.

I realised that perhaps this was the result of the crazy crowds on the beach that day and maybe a blanket instruction had been given to all staff. With this in mind, I thought a bit of communication was in order.

“No problem,” I said, “this makes complete sense. Could you just make a quick call to the manager from the phone in your security booth and let him know that we are local Camps Bay residents.”

I turned to our little crew and informed them that this is obviously a formality and is surely to do with the mayhem on the beach.

The guy came back from making the call and said, “I’m sorry, local residents are not allowed in the hotel – only guests.”

We stood there, gobsmacked. I didn’t know what to say. All I could muster was, “there must be a mistake – did you tell the manager we are locals, who support the hotel throughout winter, when there are no tourists? Can you check again..”

He made another call, came back and said the same thing.

I asked for the manager’s name.

Mario Gomes, is the name he gave me.

And so, Mario Gomes and The Bay hotel, we would just like to thank you for that. It is very interesting to note how you welcome us with open arms in winter and carry on about how special the Capetonians are to you. But then as soon as summer comes, you refuse to let us in to your hotel – with full knowledge that we are locals and supporters of your hotel. Twice.

Not to mention the amount of friends and family we have directed to your establishment in the past..

    What a pity.

But let’s hear what the readers out there think of this. Do you think it’s right that The Bay hotel bans locals during summer, but then let’s them in during winter? Perhaps this is standard around the world? We’d love to hear your thoughts – please add to the comments section – below.

  • 2OCEANSVIBE FEATURE ON “TOP BILLING” TV SHOW

The cries from the 2oceansvibers out there who missed the 2oceansvibe feature on SA’s number one TV magazine show, Top Billing, were overwhelming. I knew I had to SOMEHOW get it onto the web for you to see!

Just to run you through the process – I recorded the show on my PVR decoder at The Safe House. So what that does is it stores the show in digital format on the PVR machine – for use at home. There is no facility to transfer this data from the machine to another machine, or computer, or disc or flash drive. Granted, there is a USB port on the decoder – but it doesn’t do anything,

So my friends at iKraal lent me a VIDEO MACHINE. That’s right – an old school style VHS video player/recorder. Awesome! I would hook up the machine between the PVR and the TV and record the show! There was only one problem – I needed a VHS tape..

Not the easiest thing in the world, I’m sure you can imagine. I went to Caldis on Long Street where the staff completely ignored me and managed to muster a mumble confirming that they had no VHS tapes. A very different attitude to when I bought the several plasma screens and DVD players and stereos in the past.

So anyway, should you ever require a VHS tape, I can confirm that Pick n’ Pay at the Waterfront sells them. I got a TDK 180 – quite mean! So I took that home, recorded the show from PVR onto tape and took the tape to iKraal, who have the facilities to transfer that video BACK into digital format! From there I could put it on “le web” – which is what the French call it.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how we got to this point!

So sit back, relax and enjoy the 2oceansvibe feature from SABC 3′s Top Billing show, 15 October, 2009. Wait for the box to load under this sentence and press play!

*Slow connections are advised to press pause to let it load up before playing.

    I’m fine with that..
