Crowd Of Social Brazilian Cycles Run Over By Lunatic [PG13 VIDEO]

[Update: Read the latest developments here]

Long-time 2oceansvibe readers will be aware of our mild allergy to offensive cyclists – you know, the chaps who cruise in to cafes on Saturday morning, sweat gushing from their epidermis, balls cupped by spandex, which are at eye level as they walk in.

That’s not to say that we’re not for cycling. I mean look, science has shown that cycling is an efficient, and enjoyable method of mechanical forward-motion.

The driver of this vehicle in this video has obviously taken light humour to a very dark place.

2oceansvibe could, and will never, condone this kind of vibe.

Who wants to slip a spoke between that driver’s ribs? Hands up?

Indications are that no one was killed – which is a miracle.

Awful clip. Hopefully 2oceansvibe won’t have any explaining to do should this happen over here on any scale given the “flexible” levels of your average readers powers of reasoning as demonstrated by comments above and on previous posts which are beginning to tire. Time to grow up.

Get over yourselves guys and do some excercise. You preach “living the holiday” so instead of sitting on your (I won’t say fat) arses get outside in this beautiful city and actually do something. Cyclists are afforded huge amounts of respect in Europe (isn’t that where some people in CT think they are from?) and for the image conscious did you know Paul Smith was a professional cyclist and now designs cycling clothing for Rapha (Whose team just won the Tour of SA which showcased SA as a holiday destination globally) and D&G designed the pink leaders jersey for the Giro d’Italia.

Cycling is a massive revenue generator for particularly the Western Cape – don’t eff it up with a bad attitude no matter how funny you think you’re being.

As for the upwardly mobile target readership of 2OV need I remind you that a decent bike (just the bike alone) can cost anywhere from R50-150k which is more than most peoples cars so perhaps don’t be so quick to criticise and isolate.

Cyclists have absolutely nothing protecting them from road hazards and, lets be kind here, bad drivers. We’re just looking after our own skin. Should that hold you up for 10 seconds I’m sure it’s not the end of the world for you Bill Gates.

Jee, a bit heavy, but you are correct Captonian Cyclist. I am from Belgium, moved here 12 years ago, and I am still trying to understand why South Africans car drivers seem to hate cyclists. In Europe EVERYBODY rides a bicycle. Why? Because it’s the coolest (and healthiest, and everything…) way to get from A to B.

@Aware Capetonian Cyclist, you forgot to mention that most cyclists are road hogging, robot skipping, offensive prawns. Anyone who thinks it’s cool to walk into a coffee shop with their helmet on, sweaty, balls hanging out is a total ass hat of the highest order. Get over yourself and please stop using our roads. They belong to the cars and motorbikes. You have no place on them.

Anyone posing with a helmet on next to a bike (and an umbrella in the hand) is definitely a prawn.

Guys. I agree, lets move on from the Prawn thing. We see runners in their sweaty silkies, gym guys in their soaked gym kit, hikers in dirty/sweaty clothes in our restaurants, cafe’s and superettes. Isn’t it great that we live in an active city, where people get out there and live. Why are cyclists such a target for this tired joke, but also clearly for irrational, dangerous, aggro people residents of our beautiful city. No one is perfect and there are many drivers that are equally shocking in their road compliance, as a lot of cyclists are too I agree. Think speeding, drink drive, hit and run, etc – the mayhem on our roads is due to drivers, not cyclists.

  • It was a joke at first and yes it was funny for a while. By encouraging “people” like Mr>brainwash who are clearly not capable of rational thought it is creating a potentially very dangerous scenario. Like I said we cycle with absolutely no protection and it just takes one person to, even as a joke, try something silly, and we have a fatal accident on our hands. The Argus is around the corner and there are thousands of cyclists who perhaps aren’t on the road for most of the year. It just takes a miniscule amount of patience to co-exist.

I’m also sorry to say that the argument that we have no right to be on the road falls completely flat so I won’t go into that juvenile train of thought.

Your readers are clearly very impressionable and it is irresponsible to promote this behaviour particularly around this time of year. I can recall probably a dozen fatal accidents last year just before the Argus. Several of them were early morning when people were most likely driving under the influence. Its a dangerous game to be promoting 2OV.

Let’s not forget the good what cycling has done for each and every reader. If it wasn’t for the sport people like Lance Armstrong would never have been able to raise hundreds of millions of Dollars and persuade governments to spend billions of Dollars to fund cancer programmes that either fund cancer research or provide support to those affected by cancer which is absolutely every one of us without
    exception.

Next time you’re screaming and hooting at a cyclist or mocking them anonymously on a public forum maybe consider your short-sighted attitude first. It could be the man himself in front of you who you ultimately could owe your or a loved ones life to.

uhm… Bicycles don’t pay for a road license. Why are they allowed on the roads? Always wanted to know this.

Another thing. Can I sue the event organisers of a cycling race if I accidentally hit a cyclist with my car? I have on many occasions narrowly dodged a cyclist overtaking another or riding 5 abreast next to each other. Just want to know where I as a legal road user stand.

Schalk: sue them for what? Legally cyclists absolutely have a right to be on the road. And this may be news to you but it is your responsibility to drive safely and only pass when it is safe to do so. Anything less will land you in plenty of trouble with the law and by the way you’re talking probably an attempted murder or god forbid murder charge.

Cyclists riding abreast, while although I agree negligent, is certainly not illegal and certainly doesn’t justify actions as you suggest.

You are yet another example of the primates on our roads and on this website which is attempting to breed this lack of culture.
