A tweet by the Rector of the University of the Free State, Professor Jonathan Jansen, confirmed that Oprah will be visiting the university campus on June 24 this year.
Further details, including the reasons for the visit, and a more detailed itinerary of her time in South Africa have yet to be released. Oprah is enjoying a period of rest and recreation following the final wrap of her iconic talk show, which spanned over 25 years.
The University of the Free State has struggled through turbulent waters over the course of the last 24 months, having played host to one of the most poignant race rows in the history of the democratic dispensation, when a number of white students belonging to the Reitz mens residence were accused of urinating in the food of black domestic workers and demeaning their dignity further by filming their exploits.
Further details to follow.
