Richard Dawkins
Evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins, along with 13 other professors, is planning to open a new university in London at the end of next year. All of the professors will teach and their aim is to offer the “highest-quality” education to “gifted” students.  For those hoping to obtain anything other than a BA – sorry. They are only offering humanities degrees.
While they will be liberal with their knowledge, they most certainly aren’t with their fees. New College of the Humanities (NCH) will charge fees of R200 000 a year and will be based in Bloomsbury, central London. At the moment they hope to open in September 2012.
And what will you be able to soak up knowledge-wise for that hefty sum? The college claims to offer a “new model of higher education for the humanities in the UK” and will prepare undergraduates for degrees in Law, Economics and humanities subjects including History, Philosophy and English literature. Students will also take three “intellectual skills” modules in science literacy, logic and critical thinking and applied ethics. Practical professional skills to prepare them for the world of work including financial literacy, teamwork, presentation and strategy will also be taught.
If this sounds like your kind of vibe, then you can apply immediately. The college offers assisted places to more than 20% of the first year’s intake.
