With the last film coming out soon, the Harry Potter franchise has almost been sucked dry of moneymaking potential. Almost. Because they’ve recently put up the super-secret-but-not-that-secret ‘Pottermore’ website, which seems to be promoting an upcoming treasure-hunt-type game where fans use online clues to find wands in the real world.
Which is what we call beating a dead horse. The Times say:
“[Pottermore.com] is a sophisticated online game that contains clues to prizes that are hidden in the real world. These are an unstated number of magic wands secreted in Britain and America, and possibly other countries.”
What isn’t clear at the moment is whether the treasure hunt is the product itself or just marketing for some other magical cash cow.
