Wondering what it’s called so you can get there ASAP? Brooklyn Superhero Supply is the name and get this, the store is actually a non-profit organisation named 826 NYC, offering creative writing workshops for kids between 6-18 years of age.
Apparently it’s often mistaken for a hardware store, but alas, it’s quite the opposite my friends. This is a place where one can purchase cans of courage, invisibility paint and the tools needed to scale those pesky neighbourhood walls.
A walk inside will also reveal one more little surprise – a secret writing room. Which also happens to be hidden behind… Get this… A fake bookshelf. No, really.
Inside you’ll also find a Capery, where potential heroes can try on capes and pose for the camera. And, if by some chance, you are the evil spawn of Dr Octavius, thus predisposing you to a life of crime, you might want to step into the Devillainising Chamber. I wouldn’t, but only because everyone knows villains are cooler.
If you thought that this was just a couple of comic book geeks playing around, you’re dead wrong. How do I know this? Well I’ll tell you. Store rules require that you recite the Vow of Heroism with every purchase.
If this had been local I have a feeling it might have been called something like ‘Up Up And AWEH’!
Just putting it out there.
