“If you had five No. 1’s, you’d be smiling too”
In news certain to make the Kloof Street set spit up their Vida all over their vintage Converse, Katy Perry has become the second artist in music history to send five singles from an album to the number one spot in the US. The first was the late, great Michael Jackson with singles from Bad released 1987 through 1988 (yeah yeah, check the jokes at the door please…).
Perry is the first female artist to scoop the achievement so far, as her title single “Teenage Dream”, lead single “California Gurlz” (featuring Snoop Dogg), “Firework”, “E.T.” (featuring Kanye West) and most recent single “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” from her second album have all hit the top spot in the US. the album has sold over 1.7 million copies since hitting stores in September last year.
And now, while scalding espresso drips silkily down your Ramones T, let’s revisit the scrumptious video to Perry’s latest single “Last Friday Night”:
What?! Come on! It has Hanson, Kenny G, Rebecca Black, Corey Feldman, Debbie Gibson and Eyebrows McHairgel from Glee! Now that’s counter-culture!
