Salma Hayek Knighted In France
Salma Hayek
France’s president, Nicolas Sarkozy announced today that Mexican-born actress Salma Hayek will become a Chevalier – or Knight – of the Legion of Honour for her services to the French Republic.
The news was not too well received by all, with some labeling the country’s honours system “a laughing stock.” It even led to one former minister refusing the same award, while others suggested that the event would see Napoleon “turning in his grave”. The National Order of the Legion of Honour was created by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802 “to reward the men and women who have devoted themselves, sometimes to the death, to the nation”.
Yip, that pretty much sounds like Salma Hayek!
She will be given a medal by Mr Sarkozy at the Elysee Palace in the next few weeks. Other Hollywood stars that have received Legion of Honour gongs in the past include Clint Eastwood, Robert Redford and Robert De Niro.
