As South Africans, the availability of great wine that we are exposed to tends to make us snobs in the vineyard area. Luckily for us, we have brands such as Boshendal to sip on, and while we sip we can be glad to know that the perfection is being celebrated for all its worth. Boschendal’s Grande Cuvee Brut 2007 took home the Classic Wine Trophy Award this week… And a well deserved award at that.

Boschendal’s bubbly wine maker, Lizelle Gerber couldn’t be prouder of her classic champagne, which contains both a traditional Chardonnay and varieties of Pinot Noir, thus developing the perfect South African Cap Classique. The Awards are judged by a panel of French Wine experts, so you know it takes a lot to impress. The Brut seems to be cleaning up at these award ceremonies and can add this trophy to its list of awards : Best vintage Cap Classique at the Amorim Cork Cap Classique Challenge 2011, Veritas Double Gold 2011, Wine Makers Choice Diamond Award and the John Platter 2012 4 1/2 star rating.

“This Classic Wine Trophy is a tremendous honor,” says Marketing Manager Brad Gold. “Boschendal Cap Classique is a true classic in every sense yet, it’s alive with charisma and character that is contemporary and exciting.”  The wine is said to be “a deliciously rich and creamy bubbly with a gentle cascade of graceful bubbles that explode with plenty of yellow and green apple fruit, roast nuts and almond biscotti supported by citrus fruit intricacy and a discreet minerality that freshens up beautifully to a balanced seamless finish. Mmm, just hearing that makes me very thirsty.
