A consul-general’s job, amongst other things, is to facilitate trade and friendship between citizens of two countries. Marie-May Kolsch, the Seychelles consul-general, may have taken that mandate a little too far, judging from some rather salacious communication between herself and a former director of the failed Pinnacle Point property group. An eyebrow-raising email exchange has been revealed during the company’s liquidation hearing, which is currently underway.
It’s alleged that through the group’s former non-executive director, Ivor Stratford, Kolsch received an interest relating to a tender won by Cape Town-based Pinnacle Point to develop a casino, hotel and golf club on the Seychelles’ Ile Aurore island. The inquiry has also revealed that Stratford made a number of R50 000 payments into Kolsch’s account, which no doubt also facilitated friendship between the two beautifully.
Here are a few of the choice extracts from emails sent by Marie-May to Ivor:
The last time we met, you mentioned something about exchanging my 3% shares for Ile Aurore in Seychelles to Pinnacle Point in South Africa. If that offer still stand[s][...] can you explain to me details of how it works as I need to discuss it with Fred. [...] Lots of kisses xxx Marie-May.
In another, she said:
Thanks a million for the 3% shares of Ile Aurore. When I see you again, I will kiss you all over – make sure to wear protection underwear.
Very affectionate. But unfortunately for everyone, the development never got off the ground, resulting in a major financial blow for Pinnacle Point, which is now on the brink of going bust.
