According to a bold but accurate, claim made by vice president for Chrome and apps Sundar Pichai, chances are you’re using Google Chrome to view this page. This is what Pichai announced yesterday at Google’s I/O, and in celebration of launching the most popular browser in the world, Google created and posted a commemorative video tracking their rise. Click through for the fun, informative video.
Gone are the days of Internet Explorer ruling the browsing roost, which is now dominated by the mighty Google Chrome. The slick browser, which launched just four years ago, now claims 310 million users worldwide and accounts for more than 30% of the world’s total web traffic, consistently edging out Internet Explorer. In a survey done by StatsCounter, over the last six weeks, Chrome accounted for 32,68% of web browser use, compared to Internet Explorer’s 32,05%, with various other browsers snapping up the leftovers.
However, a similar study done by Net Applications sees Internet Explorer occupying the top spot with a rather dominant margin.
As with so many surveys, results are heavily dependent on method, study criteria, and interpretation, and as such, can be very misleading depending on the source, and of course, backing partners. But let’s not get caught up in the middle of a “whose-browser-is-bigger” contest, rather sit back and enjoy the well-made, informative video.
