    “I didn’t even know…”

Ja, and you thought we were joking when we reported earlier this week about the new traffic laws in Cape Town! Turns out that motorists caught using a cell phone in traffic will indeed face a R500 fine, plus have their phone confiscated for a day. Let these stupefied offenders serve as a lesson to you:

I agree that one should not drive while talking/texting on your phone, but what about the policemen and traffic officers I see daily driving while talking on their cellphones? Who’s going to take away their phones? They are the people responsible for enforcing the law, but yet they are perpetrators themselves who believe they are above the law! Not even mentioning the metro police, police and traffic officers speeding without official emergency lights. Seems like traffic rules do not apply to our government and the enforcers.

      Who you gonna call?
Non one coz they took away your phone hahahahaha!
If they enforce this in JHB don’t expect many phones will make it backt o their owners!

According to the law traffic officers and cops are allowed to use their mobile phone (and drive without their seatbelts fastened) for work purposes

Buy a cheap phone at Pep/Game/Makro for R89 + SIM card. Keep it in your cubbyhole. When pulled over, present this phone to police. Trolled

Still have to pay the fine though :(

    • Gruwel

So are they also allowed to speed outside of emergency situations? Why are they allowed to use cellphones “for work purposes” when their cars are fitted with two way radios? It does not make sense and I find it difficult to believe seeing that this is what their radios are for – work. Besides, I wonder how many of those calls are for “work purposes.” And why don’t they use a hands free kit?
