Omar Khyami, Tamara Ecclestone and her father Bernie Ecclestone
When billionaire heiress Tamara Ecclestone received an unexpected phone call from her father summoning her to his office she knew something was up, and immediately suspected the worst. Panicked, she rushed to his office and found her mother there as well. Her father warned her that what she was about to see was “going to upset [her]” and then hit play on his laptop.
As her parents looked on in horror as Tamara watched the video, it became clear why her father did not divulge any more details on the initial phone call. She was watching a sex-tape and the film’s star was Omar Khyami, her 38-year old boyfriend of two-and-a-half years. In the video she easily identified Khyami by the Cartier love bangles on his arm, which she had bought him.
“I felt sick, mortified, betrayed and acutely embarrassed for my parents that they’d had to see this. I mean, my dad’s in his 80s.
“When it was over, my mum said “I can’t believe you are so calm,” but inside I was just frozen with disbelief, grief-stricken and too stunned to cry.
“It felt as if I was mourning someone who’d died, because I realised the man I loved didn’t exist,” Tamara said.
Her father had received the tape via a red-top tabloid some time in the last two weeks. As soon as the tape had finished she knew her relationship was over, “there’s no discussion” she had said to her father after he had asked what she wanted to do. On her way to her sister’s house she called Omar.
“I am quite an emotional person, but I felt strangely calm. I told him: “I have just seen a video of you having sex with another person.
“He said “What?” and tried to deny it, but I repeated: “I have seen the video and my parents have seen the video.”
“Then he admitted it was him on the tape. He told me it had happened only once and added: “I’m being blackmailed. There’s more to this than you think. I had to do it.”
“I thought: “Blackmail? Please.”
“There was no one holding a gun to his head. I told him it was over and to stay away from me and my family. I said it would be best if he didn’t come back to the house.”
‘My dad also called Omar and said: “Please respect Tamara’s wishes. You have put her through enough, she just wants to be able to move on now.”
Tamara, who had hopes of marrying Omar in the very near future, said he never apologised to her or her father for his actions. Since the split she has removed all trace of him from her life, the house bares none of his presence and she returned the £123,000 white Bentley with personalised number plates he bought her for Christmas.
Khyami continues to defend his actions, claiming that the recorded footage originated from a time before they were dating.
‘This wasn’t a relationship. This was my friend’s stag night. We were all messed up and drunk. I didn’t even know what the hell it was.
‘Tamara is being hot-headed. I dispute everything. This was before I was with Tamara.”
That, despite the fact that the Cartier love bangles Tamara had bought him were clearly visible in the tape. He also sent her text messages pleading for her to hear his side of the story.
“You have to know there is more to this story than you think there is, I need to see you alone”
Tamara insists that underneath the wealth and lavish lifestyle she is just an ordinary woman and is as hurt by the affair as anyone else would have been.
“I have never loved anyone like that before,” she says. “I was 100 per cent faithful to Omar.”
The devastating revelation has brought earlier issues regarding Khyami’s past into question again and put doubt in Tamara’s mind about their entire relationship. Still, she is positive about her future and confident that there is someone out the world for her.
“I’m sure there’s someone out there for me who’s honest, trustworthy and respectful. I just haven’t met him yet.”
