Hot Wheels have to be one of the best toys ever. Getting mini cars to do flips and twists landing back on the track only to roll on into a service centre, or maybe just onto another set of crazy loops, was the best. What’s better than this miniature craziness turned full scale?
As I have hinted at above, the best thing about Hot Wheels were the loops and ramps. Some were designed by the company, but most were made up by you. Working out some complicated stunt that saw your little car flying over sets of encyclopedia, pets, and a stadium made of cereal boxes. As one online commentator succinctly put it, Matchbox < Hot Wheels.
But what about the same thing set up in real life.
That’s what Hot Wheels has done now. Is it just another online video advertising a product? Sure. But Hot Wheels IRL is awesome. I did that same thing with a mini car when I was 10 and was incredibly stoked when it landed. Here’re the same thing with a full sized car. Awesome.
Another thing this video teaches us is that just because you slap on a lab-coat, does not mean you look scientific. Guy in the dreads, I’m looking at you.
If you are really into these stunts, there is a “making of” video here.
