Look upon the Hennessey Venom GT, the world’s fastest production car. It managed a ridiculous 300 km/h in 13.63 seconds, all while remaining street legal. Get yours for only $1.2 million.
With a Guinness Book of Records judge in attendance, the Hennessey Performance made two runs down a 8,000-foot runway at Ellington Airport in Houston. Its blisteringly fast runs saw it topple the previous “production car” records held by the Koenigsegg Agera R, which hit 200 mph in 17.68 seconds, and the the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, which hit 200mph in 22.2 seconds.
Wired quotes company founder John Hennessey, who is obviously pleased with the achievement:
We are exceptionally proud of our team at HPE who helped to make this new Guinness World Record possible . . . This is just the first of several validation tests designed to show the world what our special car is all about – being the fastest. Period.
The car is basically an extended Lotus Exige with a 7.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 Corvette engine that generates a quite silly 1,244-horsepower. It’s top speed is claimed as a zippy 278 mph.
All we are wondering is how fast The Stig will get it to go around Top Gear’s track.
