A $5 million (R46 million) reward was offered by the Obama Administration on Wednesday for information that could lead to the capture of Lord’s Resistance Army Chief, Joseph Kony, two of his top aides (Okot Odhiambo and Dominic Ongwen) and a Rwandan rebel leader of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda, Sylvestre Mudacumura (suspected of committing crimes against humanity).
The money is being offered by the State Department under a provision in the War Crimes Rewards Program, signed into law by current US President Barack Obama in January.
Kony is accused of ordering a brutal campaign for power that originated in Uganda in the 1980s, and is wanted by the Internaional Criminal Court. Kony is believed to be hiding in the Central African Republic (CAR). But CAR, whose government was recently overthrown last month, is uncooperative.
