The last seven days marked the delivery of the first production batch of the Google Glass to consumers. And with sales set to increase with production revving up in the coming weeks, Google Glass could be the next public spy cam.
Imagine for a moment that every person at the Boston Marathon had a pair of Google Glass on at the time of the bombing. The sheer volume of video and audio that would have been captured may well have led to the identification and capture of the suspects much, much sooner.
Of course, even without Google Glass, investigators had access to a large volume of footage, courtesy of roof top cameras, and bystander smartphone footage, but the quality of this footage was poor, in general.
Google Glass poses some serious questions about the nature of privacy, and our growing obsession with producing and sharing the media of daily life. It may also make criminals think long and hard about committing a large scale public crime.
