Is DSTV, too much more?
The problem that everyone has with DSTV can be described as follows:
One pays R700, or there abouts for hundreds, and hundreds of channel. Inevitably, you watch a shortlist of 10 channels, tops.
Of course, you can opt for a smaller selection of channels, and pay much less.
But the trimmed-down packages lack the small selection of channels that you surf on the ultra-expensive full house.
This problem could be over for the lucky few under the reign of Arizona senator, John McCain. McCain is tearing into legislation that permits cable companies to prevent their clients being able to pick and pay for the channels they want.
McCain says:
My legislation would eliminate regulatory barriers to a la carte by freeing up multichannel video programming distributors (MVPDs) – like, cable, satellite and others offering video services – to offer any video programming service on an a la carte basis. In the end, the Television Consumer Freedom Act is about giving the consumer more choices when watching television. It’s time for us to help shift the landscape to benefit television consumers.
Would you support a similar piece of legislation in South Africa?
