So, we don’t know our bodies as well as we thought.
According to scientist, Harminder Dua at The University of Nottingham, a new human body part has been found. But you’ll never be able to clap your eyes on yours.
The new classification comes in the form of a layer in the eye. The appropriately-named “Dua Layer” is found at the back of the cornea, and only measures 15 microns thick, whereas the cornea measures 550 microns or 0.5mm thick.
The biological discovery does not only change what ophthalmologists know about eye anatomy, but treatment of eye conditions will improve.
Dua said:
From a clinical perspective, there are many diseases that affect the back of the cornea which clinicians across the world are already beginning to relate to the presence, absence or tear in this layer.
