Athens takes bronze with $15 billion. Beijing gets bumped down to silver with $40 billion. And the gold medal goes to Russia with $50 billion, making the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics the most expensive Olympics ever. Let’s meet a couple of Russia’s wealthiest individuals responsible for the bill.
First up we have Arkady Rotenberg, who received $7.36 billion in various state contracts that included construction of the pipelines power plans and ski resorts. Then there is Gennady Timchenko. He and his partners at SK Most Construction Company received contracts worth around $1.8 billion. Oleg Deripaska on the other hand invested $1.38 billion, then received another $1.7 billion in various state contracts.
