“Someone urgently needs to restore George Clooney’s marbles,” said London mayor Boris Johnson in response to Clooney’s remark regarding the return of the Elgin Marbles to their place of origin. But the Englishmen didn’t stop there. He went on to describe Clooney’s comment as a “Hitlerian agenda”.
During a press conference for Clooney’s new film, ‘Monuments Men’, he was asked for his opinion about returning the Elgin Marbles. The Elgin Marbles are friezes and sculptures that were taken from the Pantheon 200 years ago by British Lord Elgin. Some describe Elgin’s act as comparable to looting.
All that Clooney said to set Boris off, was that returning them was “a good idea”.
