Advertising big-shot Charles Saatchi seems to have it all, but one thing he doesn’t have is shame.
Instead of hiding from his past and more-recent abusive antics, Saatchi is making lemonade of the whole thing, and has allowed artists to upload paintings and drawings of his less-proud moments onto his gallery site (where he claims 30% if it’s sold), including images of Saatchi choking ex-wife Nigella Lawson.
Darren Udaiyan, the man who painted the Simpsons and Van Gogh-inspired piece doesn’t think that there’s anything wrong with it.
It’s not really controversial, Saatchi is strangling Nigella but it’s also about him squeezing the art market.
It works on many levels, it’s a comment on the art market and how people control it.
