An interesting relationship in the life of Joan Rivers was the one with talk show host Johnny Carson.
The veteran comedienne was a regular guest host on the Tonight Show back in 1983, but Rivers was blacklisted by Carson when she left to do her own talk show on Fox, and this proved to be the final straw for Carson.
Another long-time talk show host, Larry King, gave some insight into the troublesome relationship between Rivers and Carson.
Here was a girl that [Carson] gave a big break to. She hosted the show for him. Then she took the job with Fox. It only lasted a year, and he never spoke to her again, wouldn’t return her phone call. Joan felt he that should have been very happy for her. Johnny felt that she should have called him before she took that gig, and of course he wouldn’t have stopped her from taking it, but that she owed him the courtesy of [telling him].
Before her death, Rivers even spoke of her relationship with Johnny Carson in the 2010 documentary of her life called A Piece of Work.
