Look, anything that is purple and pink in colour deserves to be alive. And the great news is that there IS a creature of these wonderful hues, alive and well, kicking back in the sunny Seychelles.
Lucky buggers.
Thought to be extinct, and last seen in 1997, the Aldabra banded snail was re-discovered in late August by a group of researchers from the Seychelles Islands Foundation, on Malabar Island.
“Widely considered to be among the first species whose extinction could be directly tied to global warming.”
It is also a wonder how the snails got to the island in the first place. The Aldabra atoll is obviously surrounded by saltwater… and snails and salt… not a good mix.
Wonderings aside, it is a miracle that we get to take a creature off the world’s ever growing extinction list.
