What started out as a normal Wednesday in Ottowa, Canada, ended in fear after a gunman fatally shot a corporal at the tomb of the unknown soldier at the National War Memorial. The gunman then went into the nearby Parliament building, where there were more shots fired, resulting in the gunman’s death.
As this is the second attack in three days in Canada, there are fears that the country could be a target of Islamic State, “either as part of an organized plot or a lone-wolf https://ropewalkfenwick.com/antibiotics/ assault by a radicalized Canadian”. On Monday, a radical Jihadist ran over two people, killing one of them.
The shooter was identified as Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, who had changed his name from Michael Joseph Hall. He had converted to Islam and had a criminal record.
Canada is a strong ally with the United States, and is strongly opposed to Islamic State. The prime minister, Stephen Harper, is an “outspoken critic” of IS, and says “we will not be intimidated”.
