Pink Floyd, sans Roger Waters, unleashed new music for the first time in two decades on Monday, with the release of its album, The Endless River, and a dreamy music video for their single “Louder Than Words.”
“Louder Than Words” is the only song on the album with lyrics.
The video begins with a young man paddling his boat through a river of clouds before transitioning into studio clips and footage filmed in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
The new album, the group’s first since 1994, features recordings from the English rock band’s 1993 Division Bell sessions.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees formed in 1965, with Gilmour joining in ’67, and original members departing for various reasons (like Syd Barrett in ’68, keyboardist Richard Wright in ’79 and Waters in ’85). Wright eventually returned in the ’90s, helping Pink Floyd until the final album in 1994. He died of cancer in 2008. Before his death, the band did a reunion performance in 2005. Drummer Nick Mason and Gilmour briefly played together in 2011.
Some fans have said that this isn’t really a Pink Floyd album without Waters, who penned popular songs on Pink Floyd’s biggest albums such as The Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall and Wish You Were Here. Waters has been touring solo lately.
