I can’t imagine ever being in such a dire situation that I have to leave my very newborn baby next to a rubbish bin on the side of the road, and quite frankly, I’m over the moon relieved about that. But life is hard and crappy for many and these extreme scenarios play out.
Take this story, right out of Brazil.
A man who watched a police appeal video recognised a woman leaving a baby resting against a street lamp as his ex-girlfriend.
Yes. Go read that again.
Apparently she had kept the entire pregnancy a secret, telling her ex that she had miscarried at four months, and gave birth alone in a bathroom, before deciding on this last resort. Miraculously, a man (who turned out to be her father) saw the newborn and picked it up.
Moises Pereira Teixeira, the father of the baby, has been reunited with his son. Wait. There’s another miracle coming… The authorities had coincidentally named the baby Moises.
Thanks to God I have the support of my family, my mother, my grandfather and even my new girlfriend. Discovering my baby boy who I didn’t even know existed was safe after being abandoned at birth was such an emotional thing. And knowing that by sheer coincidence he had been given my name was an ever greater emotion. I hope now to win permanent custody.
I somehow don’t think permanent custody will be a hard thing to win.
