Crime syndicates in Johannesburg have been capitalising on luxury car owners talking about their dream machines on social media, by using it as a way to track them down and steal them. A whopping 29 thefts have been reported since April, all with a very similar M.O.
People report problems with their cars to dealerships or on Twitter/Facebook, and when a ‘representative’ turns up to collect the faulty vehicle they do the natural thing and hand over the keys. The dude drives off never to be seen again, or if you’re lucky your car will be found… in Zambia.
They say the best plans are the simplest ones, and these guys have certainly had a good run to date. Just be careful who you tell next time your Ferrari is having engine troubles.
