Mention the name Vlakplaas to those with a decent grasp of South African history and you often need not say more. The farm is synonymous with the torturous and murderous exploits of Eugene de Kock, the man aptly nicknamed ‘Prime Evil’, although plans are afoot to turn it into a museum.
If you pay close attention to the news you may remember that de Kock was actually released from prison in January of this year after serving 20 years. One wonders if he will ever return to the scene of some of the more horrendous crimes this country has ever seen.
