South African financial ads generally have an inspiring narrative that runs along feel good images all in the effort to get you to save, invest or buy some sort of life insurance. And they are pretty great sometimes, right? Definitely. But then, you get the Swedes.
Turning financial advertising completely on its head, DDB Stockholm used the aspect of a smooth transition to make a few ad spots for an e-commerce payment brand, Klarna.
All three spots are directed by the renown Perlorian Brothers who impress with their idiosyncratic work.
To communicate this idea of “smoooth,” the ads show, respectively, a fish taking a thrilling ride down a plastic slide and across a floor; a cheese slicer carving gorgeously through a long block of cheese; and a very hairy creature swimming carefree through a pool.
All the ads are backed by the same simple, looping electronic music and it’s mesmerising, I’m telling you.
The ads, along with outdoor advertising and social media, were released on Tuesday in Sweden and, thankfully we get to see them, too.
We fell for the concept ‘Smoooth’ because it describes the overall feeling of how a really good experience should be when you shop online.
The creative approach was to keep them minimal, to keep them graphic, to keep them intriguing, and to keep them smooth. We wanted them to feel a little strange and arty. So we searched all over the world for the best locations, the best props, the slipperiest fish, the smoothest cheese, the silkiest fur-covered sea creature.
