If you’ve ever set up an email or Facebook account for a parent you’ll know that password creativity isn’t exactly a skill set they’re blessed with.
No Dad, your bank account password shouldn’t be ‘password’, those scam artists aren’t getting any of my inheritance.
You’d think that a certain Mark Zuckerberg would do far better though, chucking in some potent ‘upper case lower case’ combo to throw hackers off the scent.
Well you would be wrong, because the social media mogul had his Twitter and Pinterest accounts hacked last night and he kinda had it coming.
This below from BusinessInsider:
The hacker(s) — who use the name OurMine Team — managed to get into Zuckerberg’s Twitter and Pinterest accounts…
How did the attackers get in? It looks like Zuck made a basic security mistake: He reused the same passwords.
Back in 2012, professional social network LinkedIn got hacked. The hack was back in the news again recently as the full scale of the hack finally came to light — more than 160 million accounts were compromised.
This old LinkedIn hack seems to be what made the hack of Zuckerberg’s accounts possible. “Hey, [Mark Zuckerberg],” one message sent from his Twitter account reads. “You were in [the] Linkedin Database with the password “dadada” ! DM for proof..”
The implication is that the 32-year-old CEO reused this password on Twitter and Pinterest — and the hackers got in that way.
So the man behind Facebook uses ‘dadada’ as his password – really now Zuckerberg, you should know better.
Sadly the fact remains that, even if you’re a little more creative than old Mark, cybercriminals are becoming smarter by the day. Luckily, whether it’s business or personal safety you’re after, NEWORDER are the go-to guys and have had our back in a big way.
Check out a little more about their exciting new partnership HERE, and for heaven’s sake do your bit and use a decent password.
