A 20-year-old woman survived a crash over the cliff into the rocks, between Bakoven and Oudekraal, along Cape Town’s Radlantic Seaboard on Saturday morning. She was airlifted to hospital and her condition is serious, but stable.

Imagine a world where you could break out your bikini or speedo anytime you wanted, even if it was snowing outside? Of course zi Tjermans have already made such a thing possible. Those of you living on in the real world would have been vaguely aware of a Japanese fishing vessel, the Eihatsu Maru, parked on South Africa’s fair shores in the last two weeks. What you might not have thought about in the ensuing drama was the incredible job that the crew of the SMIT Amandla tug [...]
Tomorrow, SA Maritime Safety Authorities will make another attempt to remove the stranded Eihatsu Maru from Clifton’s First beach. Last night, 2oceansVibe spoke to one of the men in charge, Samsa’s chief operations officer, Sobantu Tilayi. Many questions still remain about the reasons why the captain grounded the vessel, but Tilayi said the operation has now reached a critical stage.
Just after midday on Saturday, at Camps Bay, hundreds of surfers paddled out into the bay to celebrate the life of David Lilienfeld. He passed away last week after being bitten by a shark at Koegel bay. Sea Rescue boats from Bakoven and Table Bay were also there on behalf of the NSRI. See a full gallery of the very moving event after the jump.
Here’s some great news for the swimmers amongst you. The City of Cape Town is about to launch a first-of-its-kind initiative to clean up the water running into three popular bathing areas. The project aims to improve the quality of storm water at two outlet sites in Three Anchor Bay and another at Rocklands, between Sea Point and Mouille Point.
While South Africans took the day off yesterday to reflect on Human Rights Day, the small community of Hangberg near Hout Bay was rocked by violent protests as residents took to the streets to lash out against a police taskforce that raided local homes looking for abalone poachers.
Oh, what sweet joys summer brings. Once again it’s that time of year when Café Caprice brings us their Annual Industry Volleyball Tournament. What could make a Saturday better than chilling on Camps Bay beach, in the sun watching Cape Town and Brazil’s beautiful people shaking it up in a game of volleyball? The tournament [...]

Friends, by now you’ll all be aware of the sterling social work that 2oceansVibe and Jack Daniels have done over the course of the 2011. Every month, we’ve liberated desk-bound Capetonians from the drudgery and depression of working on a Friday afternoon. Check out last month’s vibe. And we’re rounding out the year with a [...]

Looks like the only bottles in da club for Lil Weezy will be the ones filled with mineral water. Following his recent conviction for drug possession, the rapper isn’t allowed to consume alcohol or associate with anyone knowingly engaged in narcotics – good luck. Let’s see if he can last longer than (Camps Bay) “twenty minutes my broda”.
Hannah Rhind, daugher of Cape Town businessman Philip Rhind, was the target of a petrol bomb thrown at her father’s Clifton house earlier this year. We know this because her name was on the bomb. And in a rather embarrassing turn of events for Shumsheer Singh Ghumman, that little personalised touch also led to the speedy identification of him as the perpetrator.
Next time you’re on the beach (and frankly, given the current weather in Cape Town, that may be later today), bear in mind that there’s more to the scenery than meets the eye. Sand is ba-yoodiful, too – beyond what our human eyes can perceive. Have a look at these shots of tiny grains of sand magnified to 250 times their real size.
Regular readers will remember the flurry caused by Clifton Shores when production first got underway. Readers were mostly happy to have South Africa, and Cape Town, chosen as the venue for an international reality show, but many were not shy to voice their concerns over what the final product might look like. Click through for the first taste.
Look, we dig the odd spot of gaming here at 2oceansvibe. If you swing by the 2oceansvibe Media Headquarters in Waterkant Street and head upstairs, just past Richard Hardiman’s desk but in front of the boardroom, you may or may not find a little lounge set up there, tastefully furnished, with the odd plasma screen, [...]
It was one of those killer sunsets tonight. You know, the kind that makes you go, “oh my effing word check that sunset where is my camera!” That’s exactly what I did tonight at The Safe House and I sent it out as a tweet. So for those of who who don’t follow me on [...]
Businessman and “club supersta” Kenny Kunene’s license disk is two years old. Kunene’s Lamborghini was spotted by 2oceansviber, Abi, at Mzoli’s this last Sunday, 20 February 2011. Kunene’s car was reportedly parked in the middle of the road.
Now I should clarify here, Norwegian kitesurfers in blouwberg are siesa. And by “siesa” I of course mean “an intoxicating mix of insanity, skill, and bravery”. Yesterday, Nick Jacobsen climbed up a crane on the deck of the now-permanently wrecked Seli I, with his kite and his board, and jumped off. Nuts.
If you haven’t heard of the Good Work Gig then you’re in for a treat. The GWG will be hosted by the Grand Cafe on Camps Bay beach, and is in aid of The Good Work Foundation. Keeping in spirit with its name, the Good Work Foundation is a charity dedicated to helping the young [...]
Local video producer, Jaco Wolmarans was lucky enough to engage in a spot of aerial photography and videography recently. He was acting, quite literally, as the wing man (keeping an eye on the horizon for oncoming air traffic) for a colleague of his who was shooting the planes. In between playing lookout he shot this clip.
Regular 2oceansvibers will be aware of the term ‘Lake-Lake,’ which is a game the Radlantic Ocean plays from time to time. What it does is it pretends to be a lake – ie. dead still. The photo above was taken this morning from The Safe House (using our iPhone 4 from Digicape and photos stitched [...]
Well, ladies and gentlemen. That’s what we call a “success”. Weather-wise, Cape Town served up a typically stunning Friday evening. The sky was azure, the rays were mild, and oh hey, look at that – a rooftop covered in beautiful people, ice cold beverages, and international music superstars. Click through for the pictures.
If you were sitting on the fence with that condo purchase on Greenpoint, now really is the time to put an offer on the table. A number of consortiums, most notably the functionally-named Cape Town Grand Prix Bid Company are making bids to bring the F1 Grand Prix to Cape Town.
