Dozens of men were protesting in Hillbrow, Johannesburg this morning – chanting slogans such as “say no to men abuse.” They claim that they are doing this in a bid to seek protection from their abusive wives, who beat them at home on regular occasions.

The Department of Environmental Affairs (read: the South African government) has welcomed (obviously?) the Council of the Global Environment Facility’s approval of R25 million worth of funding aimed at strengthening the current wildlife forensic capabilities in South Africa. The donation will help combat wildlife crimes like rhino poaching.
South African director, Oliver Hermanus, is out to make waves again when he begins work on The Well. His most recent success came in the form of the Afrikaans film, Skoonheid, that debuted at Cannes’ Un Certain Regard in 2011. The Well will see Hermanus reteam with Didier Costet, his French producer-distributor on Skoonheid.

Some of his testimony appears to directly conflict that of Murdoch’s, who in April claimed: “I have never asked a prime minister for anything.” Major becomes the first ex-Prime Minister to claim Murdoch tried to get him to change government policy.

He’s at it again. Louis Theroux has dived back into the hornet’s nest of the American porn industry 15 years after his intial foray. What he has found is that an industry that used to make billions is now fighting for survival, as so much free pornography is available online. Things have got to a point where Theroux says that pornography is now simply advertising for prostitution.
