Sunglass Hut “Inner Circle” Tent – J&B Met 2012 – Win Tickets

COMPETITION CLOSED – SEE BELOW TO BUY TICKETS

WINNER IS NOLUTHANDO – well done!

I’ve just drawn a diagram to explain something to you. You will see there is a circle with the words “Inner Circle” written inside it. That is a lot like a circle of trust. It’s where you want to be. But unfortunately, at the moment, you’re not. As you will see by the arrow showing where you are. You’re outside the Inner Circle. Not ideal. A lot of awesome people and things are inside the Inner Circle, including South Africa’s leading digital radio station, 2oceansvibe Radio.

Let me explain what this is about:

SA’s leading sunglasses retailer and curators of all things glamorous and cool, will be hosting the Inner Circle Luxury tent at the Kenilworth Racecourse infield on 28 January 2012.

The Sunglass Hut Inner Circle ticket will sell for R1500 – this not only gives you entertainment for the day, but also a R2000 Sunglass Hut gift card redeemable on the day to complement race day outfits. Think Ray-Ban, Dolce & Gabanna, Stella McCartney, Versace, it’s the perfect accompaniment to even the most flamboyant ensemble.

The J&B Met is one of the premier events and if you want to see and be seen, join Sunglass Hut for what promises to be the party of the year. Your exclusive ticket worth R1500 qualifies you for an unrivalled stylish event which includes:

The 2012 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate – Everything And More! [PHOTO GALLERY]

Anyone who made it to Saturday’s 151st L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate will attest to the fact that it was everything and more than we could possibly imagine! What a day of royal elegance it was! Guests witnessed an appearance of the legendary Pocket Power leading out the contenders for the main race, the L’Ormarins Queens Plate – Grade 1 – 1600m, won by Gimmethegreenlight in a memorable edition of the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate.

    Gimmethegreenlight takes it!

Whether your frolicking was done in the VIP Stud Club or the Caprice tent, there was no shortage of eye-candy, as both boys and girls went to town with the blue and white theme. Vintage dresses were paraded side-by-side with tight little blue and white numbers. It was something of an A-list celebrity scrum, as everyone from Miss South Africa to Pro surfer Jordy Smith shared the limelight. That main picture above is of Miss SA, Melinda Bam, Lady Kitty Spencer and Jo-Ann Strauss. They were spotted later that night, partying to Tumi & the Volume, The Kongos, Spoek Mathambo and finally Cape town’s #1 disc-spinner, DJ Sox!

  • Ridiculous New Year SMSs – Post Yours Here (Works On Mobile)

Ridiculous New Year SMSs – Post Yours Here (Works On Mobile)

Every new year a group of us has great fun forwarding and swapping SMSs with each other. You know the ones I’m talking about – “May you and your loved ones have blessed New Year and blah blah blah.” It is a very weird practice, but more-so because the wording is so unnaturally elaborate – one wonders if some people are joking. They craft this generic over-the-top message and then send it to each and every person in their phone book. Very odd.

So anyway I thought I would open it up this year and all of you could copy and paste the outrageous SMSs you receive, right here in the comments section.

I’ll kick it off with this little beauty I received last night:

Happy New Year to you – We will open the book, its pages are blank, we are going to put words on them ourselves, the book is called opportunity and the first chapter is New Years Day! Lots of love xx

    Hahaha! Are you kidding me?

    “We will open the book!!”

    Haaaah!!

“The book is called opportunity!” – Don’t be absolutely preposterous!

Anyway, you get the picture. And I am sure you have received a few yourself. So do the right thing and share them below. And if you’re worried your friend might see it below and know it’s you, don’t worry – they send them to a million people and they probably got it from someone else in the first place.

Naturally 2oceansvibe is now available on mobile, which means you can cut and paste straight from your SMS box into your web browser (into the comments section below). Or just re-type the message into the comments below. Or copy and paste the SMS into an email to yourself – then move to the comments section below. Whatever you do, just get it to the comments section below.

This absolute pleasure of a day is marked in red felt-tip pen in the diaries of informed local and international folk, who know and understand quality. WIN Tickets To The 2012 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate

COMPETITION IS CLOSED. WELL DONE TO BUSISIWE AND EMMA,
WHO HAVE BOTH WON DOUBLE TICKETS TO THE QUEEN’S PLATE

It’s not only the most prestigious horse race in South Africa, it also happens to be the most prestigious EVENT of the year. It is the one date that we at 2oceansibe refuse to miss. Such class, style and fashionable good times are very hard to match, let alone find these days. Add to that the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate organisers’ policy of limited numbers, to ensure there is no overcrowding, and you’re looking at a stress-free day of true pleasure and decadence.

The L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate has distinguished itself as the most prestigious weight-for-age race in South Africa. It was first run in 1861 in honour of Queen Victoria. In January it will again bring together the most noble thoroughbreds in the country against an august backdrop of blue and white on a day of fine dining and world-class entertainment.

The white and blue elegance that will underpin the Best Dressed and Best Hat competition will be judged by some of South Africa’s leaders in the fashion industry, namely Sam Walker (PopYaCollar), Emily Bell (Marie Claire), Jacqui Kolbe (Milliner) and Tammy Tinker (British Vogue). The day will be captured by professional photographers in what has become known as The L’Ormarins Moment.

The popular Style Lounge will include culinary delights from sushi to gourmet burgers and sandwiches, as well as a selection of the finest Anthonij Rupert Wines. There will also be a selection of vintage cars on display from one of the largest collections in the world, courtesy of the Franschhoek Motor Museum.

We have managed to secure 2 X double tickets for you and a partner. That is if you can win this quick and easy competition.

To win one of the 2 X Double L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate Style Lounge tickets valued at R250,00 each, email competition@2oceansvibe.com and tell us what the theme colours are of the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate. Along with that answer, tell us why YOU should win a pair of tickets.

The best two entries win a pair of tickets each.

  • The 2011 “Go Bowling For Movember” Champs

The 2011 “Go Bowling For Movember” Champs

Team 2oceansvibe won the inaugural “Go Bowling For Movember” tournament, and so it is with great pride and pleasure that we announce the winners of this year’s tournament. ‘The Snorchops’ were the best team on the day – last Sunday, as Kelvin Grove welcomed a large number of people with moustaches, wearing crazy costumes. I must say, it was a genuine treat to watch the extremely senior Kelvin Grove bowling fraternity squeeze a smirk as Corne & Twakkie took to the microphone, with a flurry of swear words and mandatory dry-humping of elderly people.

Thanks a million to the organisers – in particular Wellness Warehouse for making the day such a raging success.

And of course MASSIVE congratulations to The Snorchops, which include (from left to right): Emil (aka Jabba the Slut), Johann (aka Lex Steel), Andre (aka Lady Gargle) and Nico (aka Ben Dover)!

P.S. I even had my prostate checked while I was there. All clear – phew!

The Puma ‘Quad’ At The V&A Waterfront – Jack Parow, Wedding DJs, Craig De Sousa And More! BE THERE!

If you’ve missed the branding around town for the Puma Quad and yacht that will be arriving in Cape town, then you seriously need to consider an eye appointment.

PUMA enters new yacht into 2011/12 Volvo Ocean Race

Cape Town, South Africa, November 2011 – PUMA Sailing fans can catch all the action of the PUMA Ocean Racing team with the arrival of PUMA’s racing yacht, Mar Mostro (Monster of the Sea), at the V&A Waterfront in November/December.

Mar Mostro is PUMA’s second entry into the 2011/12 Volvo Ocean Race having placed second in the 2008/9 Volvo Ocean Race.

Cape Town is the first stop-over in this “Mount Everest of sailing,” a 39,000 nautical mile, round-the-world ocean race, stopping in ten ports over the course of nine months.

A PUMA pop-up store and entertainment zone called the PUMA Quad will be located opposite the V&A Amphitheatre, to provide the public with limited edition PUMA product for the two-week stopover.

PUMA will host daily activities at the PUMA Quad. Sailing prowess will be tested with grinding competitions taking place between 3pm and 6pm on the 26 November, 1, 3, 8 December as well as between 2pm and 4pm on 10 and 11 December.

The contestant with the best grinding results on competition days will win a R1000 PUMA voucher. Two grand prizes of R10 000 in PUMA vouchers will be awarded to the contestants with the top grinding scores on 10 and 11 December.

Daily sundowner Spinnaker Sessions will start on 25 November and will see the likes of local DJs Dino Moran and Craig De Sousa spinning cool tunes at the PUMA Quad from 6.15pm to 9pm and between 7.15pm to 9pm on 10 and 11 December.

In 2010 PUMA hosted a series of parties around the globe to celebrate the after-hours athlete – a person who loves to compete in the lesser known sports (pool, foosball etc) within the social environment. PUMA will continue to celebrate these after-hours sports heroes, this time with a sailing twist, through the PUMA Social Club presents All Hands on Deck party on 9 December from 4pm to 1am at Quay 4, V&A Waterfront.

This is the official Volvo Ocean Race party with live performances by Jack Parow, Craig de Sousa, Holiday Murray, Anthea Scholtz, Them Tornados and The Wedding DJs. Ping pong, darts and bowling are a few of the games that can be played with a drink in your hand on the night. Tickets are limited and will be sold at the door for R50 per person.

The PUMA Ocean Racing team is led by Skipper Ken Read, who has amassed 10 of the most elite off-shore sailors from across the globe, including South African born Jono Swain, to compete in this epic race.

The Volvo Ocean Race begins 5 November 2011 in Alicante, Spain and ends in Galway, Ireland in July 2012. The eight stopovers in between include: Cape Town, Abu Dhabi, Sanya (China), Auckland, Itajaí (Brazil), Miami, Lisbon and Lorient (France).

    Let’s do this thing!

I find it somewhat amusing that people are already talking about plans for New Year, and yet they neglect to discuss the event which comes just after New Year, every year. An event which oozes more class and genuine fun than any New Year party could ever dream of. Personally, I will be in the Karoo from Christmas until the day before the Queen’s Plate – more than enough reason to head back!

So whatever you’re doing for New Year – good for you! Enjoy it! But make sure your head clears by the time 7 January comes around – because 7 January marks Cape Town’s most prestigious event – the annual L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate horse race.

A ROYAL MEETING OF ELEGANCE AND EXCELLENCE

The elite of South African horseracing will gather for the 151st running of the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate at Kenilworth on Saturday, 7 January, in a celebration of art, passion and equestrian excellence.

There will also be a selection of vintage cars on display from one of the largest collections in the world, courtesy of the Franschhoek Motor Museum.

The L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate has captured the imagination of personalities and sporting icons alike, including the legendary Gary Player, Ernie Els, Bryan Habana, Schalk Burger, Jacques Kallis and Graeme Smith, as well as celebrities Francesca Cumani, Kitty Spencer, Joanne Strauss, and Jen Su.

In January, it will once again provide a fitting stage upon which South Africa’s greatest thoroughbreds can build their legacies.

The R250 entrance for those 18 and older provides for an all-access pass, a race card for the day, and access to the evening’s entertainment. Food and drink is not included. Entry is from 11h00 and tickets are available at Web Tickets from 1 November 2011.

    For more information visit www.lqp.co.za

Previous years they’ve had Locnville, Just Jinjer and Gazelle, so I’m sure the live entertainment will be off the charts!

Do the right thing and get your ticket now. Unlike the other horse race held at Kenilworth, it’s not a free for all and numbers are limited. They have strict control over this, to ensure everyone is comfortable. That’s why this event is so exclusive and sought after – just a dash of class, if you don’t mind…

The Kommetjie Surf Contest – Fun For Everyone – This Saturday – Be There

2oceansVibe has had a long-standing connection with “The Kom” – which is probably the reason why we feel safe when walking around the area, wearing clothes and behaving in a way that is foreign to its local inhabitants. We’ve also got life-long honorary membership and protection from the KSI (Kom Skom International), which doesn’t hurt.

So anyway, check it out – this is the epic poster for the Surf Contest my buddies are organising – in conjunction with the world famous Kommetjie Surf Shop. The contest is not about performance surfing or ability. It is all about fun with prizes for the best dressed (while riding a wave), most original craft ridden and most entertaining wave rider. What’s more, it’s open to everyone. Bring you families and your dogs (they can enter too).
