Prince William has a long time best mate, who goes by the name of Guy Pelly. Guy will most certainly be known to those of you who have completed a sojourn to Blighty.

Guy’s long tome girlfriend is Susanna Warren, the grand daughter of the Queen’s late great friend, the 7th Earl of Carnarvon. Susanna, as it turns out, has moved to Cape Town to fulfill a marketing position at our beloved Fez (AKA Vaudeville), in the heart of the Cape Town CBD.

Guy, who resides in the UK, is understandably distressed to hear of the departure of Susanna, and this is where it all gets a little tenuous.

Word on the street is that Guy is the man responsible for organising the Prince’s pre-wedding stag party, and he plans on killing two birds with one stone, as it were. Rumours suggest that the Fez has been more than a little conveniently chosen as the venue for Will’s stag party by Guy, ostensibly in an attempt to win Susanna back.

In any event.

However breathless the emotions, we’d just like to assure Guy that he’ll have made a good venue choice for Old Bill. Cape Town, get ready for Will in March.

A statement like that would annoy anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting or knowing Mikey (who doesn’t drink and is known for having the greatest respect for all people, not just women). It was that statement (sent directly to 2oceansvibe) which led to a follow-up article, which led to photos being sent in and published on these pages. From there, it all went to the traditional press – Namely News24 and Die Burger.

But you will be pleased to know that this whole fiasco has gone full-circle and in the spirit of goodwill and all the festive cheer that comes with this time of the year, it seems that all the parties concerned (Cafe Caprice, Lee-Ann Liebenberg and Former GQ Best Dressed Man Of The Year, Nicky Van Der Walt) have made peace.

Together they have released this statement:

After much sensationalised hype and speculation in the media, Cafe Caprice, Nicky van der Walt and Lee-Ann Liebenberg would like to put an end to a story that has been unnecessarily hyped up.

The parties concerned have discussed the unfortunate events that transpired at Cafe Caprice last Sunday and we are happy to report that the issue has been amicably resolved between the parties concerned.

Much of what has been reported in the media regarding events has been exaggerated and often has been factually incorrect. Sometimes the best intentions can result in the worst outcome – as was the case on Sunday.

All parties would now like to look forward to a prosperous and happy New Year instead of dwelling on the negativities of the past.

Mr. Michael Mouneimne, Nicky van der Walt and Lee-Ann Liebenberg have apologized for the unfortunate statements quoted by various media outlets and acknowledge that they were made in the heat of the moment.

Female rights and everybody’s respect thereof is paramount and should never be taken lightly. Cafe Caprice has been an institution in Cape Town for both local and international celebrities alike for many years and in particular with Nicky, Lee-Ann and their many friends.

Everybody looks forward to returning to Cafe Caprice soon and for many years to come.

All parties would now like to respectfully request that the gossip and speculation end and wish everybody a safe and happy 2011.

I’m going to start releasing random statements.

“Seth Rotherham will be getting up this morning and will probably have a coffee at vida e. In response to the public speculation as to why Seth Rotherham does this, he would like to make it clear that this is merely the way in which he “rolls.”

Although a statement like that probably doesn’t have the “wow factor” which comes with a story to do with R60,000 worth of champagne being sprayed around Caprice, followed by a public brawl and people being thrown out of the Cape Town beachfront institution.

The story has gone national, with stories on page three of today’s Die Burger, and on News24.com, following the posting of pictures of Liebenberg and van der Walt’s exploits on 2oceansvibe.

Official Statement on behalf of Nicky van der Walt & Lee-Ann Liebenberg:

1. We were privileged enough to be guests on a very generous friend’s table and were enjoying one of our firsts nights out since the birth of our baby girl, Gia. My fiancé was touched in a place, spoken to and handled in a manner that is an insult to her as woman and degrading to females in general, and out of respect for her, I don’t wish to elaborate on the matter as its is degrading and insulting to the mother of my child.

2. We respectfully request to be left alone as a family on holiday with our baby and parents in Cape Town

3. As degrading as it is that this transpired and Lee-Ann had to be put through this, it is even more insulting that we should be ridiculed about it.

4. Mr. Michael Mouneimne had 4 or 5 different incidents non-related to our incident that occurred in his establishment and the fact that he could belittle a woman being harassed shows his contempt or lack of respect for female rights.

We have nothing further to say and request that our privacy and wishes be respected in this regard.

There was no number 5 next to that last point, so I don’t know if you should take it as an actual point, or just a kind of closing statement.

One thing is for sure, I’ll take Mike’s word over this lot, any day of the week. And anyone who knows Mike will do the same.

Let’s just keep in mind that van der Walt and Liebenberg were boasting of drinking R60,000 of champagne. And then you get Mike, who doesn’t drink.

Is this what Lee-Ann meant on the night when she threatened Mike and Caprice, telling them they would “regret” throwing them out?

Come now. Don’t be silly.

Cafe Caprice - Camps Bay

When everything got too heated, they got thrown out.

Sultry model Lee-Ann Liebenberg claims she was sexually harassed while partying up a storm at a Camps Bay restaurant. The alleged incident took place at Cafe Caprice on Sunday night, while new mother Liebenberg and a group of friends were in the midst of racking up a whopping R75 000 bill for French champagne.

According to Media24.com, Liebenberg’s polo player fiance, Nicky van der Walt, aggresively confronted her alleged assailant at around 11pm. Van der Walt apparently let his fists do most of the talking, after which Liebenberg and her friends were asked to leave the restaurant. Liebenberg posted on Twitter that she had been attacked that same evening.

“Someone touched her in an inappropriate manner. She feels humiliated and shy,” her agent said.

But the manager of Caprice is laying the blame squarely at Liebenberg’s door.

Michael Mouneimne (Mike) claims Liebenberg is seeking attention.

“She wasn’t harassed. A man bumped into her by mistake in the very full restaurant and she pretended that he harassed her,” he said.

Mouneimne added that the Liebenberg crowd had been rowdy.

“They were drunk and went crazy. They even showered each other with the champagne.”

Things then got even crazier. After Van der Walt allegedly laid into Liebenberg, another member of their party started hitting Mouneimne. It was then that they were asked to pay their R60 000 bill for Veuve Clicquot, Dom Perignon and Moët and leave.

Liebenberg was also overheard screeching like a banshee at Mike, telling him he will “regret this.” Yup, that’s right – she really went for that angle.. The beautiful thing about all of this is neither Liebenberg nor Van Der Walt paid that bill. Their buddy Walter did. And while Van Der Walt was having words with Mike, sources confirm Liebenberg was seen pulling faces at Mike behind Van Der Walt’s back. No, seriously.

It’s all terribly emboerrissing and basically an example of exactly how not to do it. My left ball oozes more class than this lot. Not really what one would expect from a GQ man..

Of course it’s not the first time our boy has been in a scuffle – he was also banned for life from Plett polo after getting into a brawl there – over a former girlfriend as well.

I remember when my all time favourite Caprice waitress, Justine, first described the Dreamy Burger to me. It was something to do with a slab of cheese on top of the meat, and then she began to describe how the hot mushroom sauce is then poured over that slab of cheese, melting it in the process. As she described this final stage of the preparation she actually lost her breath for a second, her eyes rolled back and her mouth opened and hung agape for a few moments. I swear to God – it was like something out of When Harry Met Sally .“Jesus,” I said, “get me one of those!”

After gathering up some of the country’s finest female specimens to represent the various soccer super teams visiting our country, a model shoot was staged at Café Caprice, choreographed by Brandnew Marketing in order to create a sexy 2010/11 desktop calendar.

The shoot was held in the upstairs section of the venue, in conjunction with a party throughout the rest of the café, which drew a crowd of epic proportion.

I popped in and noticed one of the angels was misbehaving. She agreed that a hiding was in order.

I know it looks like I’m overdoing it, but she was being naughty. Not that she seemed to mind..

She’s already got a Lion of her own in the form of England rugby star Danny Cipriani, but Kelly Brook’s experience with the real thing is probably a little limited. However, she seemingly took to juggling three lions at once with relative ease in a photoshoot for men’s magazine FHM.

Miss Brook, 30, took part in the shoot ahead of the World Cup, which kicks off this weekend. She was keen to show her support for the England team – with the iconic Three Lions a nod to the team, who are currently in training for the tournament in South Africa.

Kelly is also set to pose for Playboy later this year, after signing a half-a-million dollar deal. Her agent Jonathan Shalit told the Mail Online that Kelly was delighted to have been chosen. He said: ‘She’s absolutely thrilled. It’s such a great honour for her, especially when you think about the icons that have graced the cover of the magazine over the years.’

The Grand

Good reviews and a smattering of issues to do with service, did the rounds in Cape Town, allowing The Grand to take their recipe for success one step further, with the launch of The Grande Café & Beach, A Nikki Beach / Blue Marlin style concept on the rocks in Granger Bay.

Whilst there certainly is a want for such an establishment, one wonders if this may have been a bit premature? And when I say premature, I am referring to the service complaints that were not fully addressed (fixed) at The Grand in Camps Bay. The result seems to be a brand spreading itself a bit thin over two Cape Town locations, resulting in a spiraling backlash from Cape Town’s Atlantic Seaboard and beyond.

The emails I have received over the couple months from 2oceansvibe readers about the service at The Grand (both Camps Bay and Granger Bay) and the nightmares when it came to booking and getting a table were gaining momentum, as I found myself waiting over an hour to get a booked table the other night. We arrived at 7 and ate at 10.

Then I got this from a well-heeled Clifton friend who mixes in very glamorous circles:

Just been wondering what you think of the service / booking at the Grand on the beach? I had a very kak experience with them last weekend which left me feeling rather cross. Anyone else had complaints?

I wanted it to go away because the image was so appealing. But that’s all it was. I tried so hard to pretend it wasn’t happening – but the noises were too great. And then I stumbled upon this, the latest complaint (this last weekend) I found at LivingStylishlyWell :

Thoroughly exasperated at this stage we went downstairs to the lower level to pay and saw Theo again. We asked if the very least he could do was not to either say ’sorry, give us a coffee or horror of horrors ‘comp’ us the meal’.

Theo’s answer? ‘I think you should leave, this has never happened before.’

We left. Never, ever to return again.

Compare this to a great breakfast at the Sandbar, superb service and vibe at Caprice and amazing value and vibe at Bayside Cafe (all on the strip, all competing with one another). In the next issue of Cape Odyssey, I’ll be talking again about two restaurants which have raised the bar in 2010 – Marianas and Heaven.

The Grand? I hear the rustling of feathers as post-World Cup chicken, prepare to come home to roost.

It’s too loud now. The noise. We can’t ignore it any longer. I’m afraid the “teething problems” time period has lapsed. This is now, quite simply, a problem.

The first step is obviously to recognise it – to realise that “the vibe” may be on. This usually comes in the form of a visual clue. There is normally a lot of blue in these clues to which I refer.

For example, I first realised the vibe was on today, as I drove down to Vida e in Camps Bay this morning to grab a coffee.

I glanced to my left and noticed this:

I know, sometimes you don’t know what is going on, until later – when you realise that a killer day was staring you right in the face.

So there it was, the visual clue I was looking for. “Hello,” I thought to myself, “it looks very much to me like the “vibe” is on!

Right there, I was beginning to “feel the vibe,” as it were.

We had a wonderful prawn couple in Vida e this morning. Clip-clop-clip-clop walking all funny on their awkward little shoes, with their spandex all over, balls hanging out, helmets on indoors. A wonderful scene it was.

Then I popped in at my buddy’s place he is building in Camps Bay. It’s nearly finished and is right at the front of Camps Bay. It’s a development – you can find out more about it here at pod.co.za. It’s got a number of rooms or “pods” as he calls them. Check out that website, it’s fucking awesome.

So anyway, on to lunch it was, at Caprice with The Dude, as we discussed what the next step would be. That’s when we remembered, what we refer to as, “the watch game.” It’s when you turn the outside dial of your watch and set the zero to where the minute hand is, and you lie on the beach until it goes the whole way around. Just to see how long it takes. Some people call it “an hour,” but we call it “the watch game.”

For the uninitiated, that’s Caprice with the red roof above the sand.

That’s the Atlantic Ocean, right there.

And that was that, really. We swam twice and lay right there and watched the minute hand of my watch go around full circle. Which it did. It went quite quickly – faster than normal it seemed.

But is was more than enough. I knew I should get back to the Safe House and let you know about all of this. You know, just in case you’re at your desk or in London. I want you to understand how important it is for you to make work a sideline and for you to live the holiday.

So here I am, back at Le Safe House.

It’s funny.. I regularly get into what pot-smokers describe as a “zone” during interviews and, when published, I often don’t remember what I said at the time.

My favourite answer would have to be the one about the dolphins. That really made me chuckle.

Speaking of which, The Big H has just returned to London and remarked (electronically) at the current weather situation in the capital. My goodness – I was not aware. It would be best to place them (Cape Town and London’s weather reports) side-by-side, to fully understand the contrast our boy is experiencing.

Not to distract us from this week’s Tuesday Tabs – simply food for thought. Or rather another opportunity for us to pat ourselves (again) on the backs for landing with our arses squarely in the butter here in Cape Town.

Speaking of butter, Luba Shumeyko has featured before on 2oceansvibe’s esteemed Tuesday Tabs list. Quite early on, I might add – Tuesday Tabs Number 7!

That was more than three years ago and came shortly after The Chief and I escaped Cape Town for a weekend of booze, weed and books in Misty Cliffs. That was followed by the realisation that famous naked photographer Petter Hegre‘s WIFE, Luba, and her twin sister Nadya, had been filmed by Peter Hegre in that very house! It’s a famous 2oceansvibe story which some of the old faithful remind me of from time to time.

That rich 2oceansvibe heritage, combined with the fact that her sister Nadya now LIVES in Cape Town, has left me with no choice but to feature Luba as the first Tuesday Tabs angel of 2010.

I wouldn’t say her husband is “out of line” for claiming that Luba has the most perfect body in the world. Seriously, he does. All the time.

It may well be up for discussion, but I certainly wouldn’t go out of my way to call him a “liar.”

She’s in the runnings, I’ll tell you that much..

I tell you what, between Apple products and these guys, life couldn’t be easier.

David, the owner of Caprice gave me no option but to attend a party at Caprice on Saturday night last week. And off I went. Or rather, the crew and I were fetched in one of those ridiculously over-the-top limos with neon lights inside and lazers and DVD screens. In a word?…ludicrous.

Keep on rolling baby, you know what time it is..

But that didn’t mean it wasn’t fun. Make no mistake, it’s in another league to the ones they use for matriek balls – with dried body fluids knotting the deep pile carpets. No, no – this one was good clean fun! So we got out of the thing at Caprice and there were camera’s and microphones and all sorts of shit. I think there was also a red carpet. What exactly was going on, I don’t know. Something to do with Jamesons. Either way, we got a stunning table in the 20′s (know your Caprice table numbers, people) and the booze arrived.

The booze was consumed and more came. I stretched out my arm to show Hanneli a photograph on my iPhone and….whoops, the motherfucker fell into an ice bucket. An ice bucket with melted ice in it..

Now you know when there is an emergency and someone is about to die and everyone in the room freezes? Ja, it was like that. I whipped it out and started shaking it.

WATER was coming out of it.

“MY CHIIIIILD!!!!” I screamed, looking up to the heavens, arms outstretched.

“Oh, Jesus, God noooooo,” I pleaded, as The Muse rubbed my back, explaining to those around that whathadjusthappened was very much equal to the loss of a loved one. To me.

I drank the pain away and the next day I called Digicape, who told me what I knew already – about the guys that operate in secret, somewhere near to Mabu Vinyl . They have to be near to Mabu Vinyl, because Mabu Vinyl is where you deliver the thing AND where you pick it up – virtually ALWAYS fixed. I remember using them once before for an iPod which had a dead battery.

No-one SEES these people that fix the things. All you get is an invoice at the end from “iFix iPod Repairs.” Their logo is an oldschool iPod (chunky) with “iFix” on the screen.

I lOVE that vibe. They’re holed up inside some kind of Safe House nearby, where all they do is fix iPods and iPonies and anything that starts with an “i.” There are rumours that they use a team of abused Cambodian children who have no other option but to fix iPods. Apparently they live on memory chips, so it all kind of works out fine. But no-one has photographic evidence, so it can’t be true.

Either way, it’s very cool.

So anyway, let’s get back to the story. Let’s look at this in order of events..

I dropped the iPhone into the ice bucket on Saturday night.

On Sunday the screen was blank and it had dried a bit. I plugged it into my very sexual Macbook Pro, looking for a miracle and SOMEHOW the Macbook managed to talk to the iPhone and it synchronised…

I don’t know exactly what it did, but I took the iPhone to these guys on Monday.

I hacked my way through the week with your classic “piece of shit” phone and then, on Thursday, I got an email telling me it was FIXED. It had to be completely wiped as well but, you know, collateral damage is a reality.

Very naughty.

I picked it up on my way to the Invictus premiere which I attended with The Adventurer (Ryan Scott) who stars in the movie as ex-Springbok Brendon Venter. Whatever, you know – standard stuff. Big Tommy Boyd was there. What a beautiful man.

I left home with my laptop and, on my way to the movie premiere, the phone and the laptop made love.

They had a little baby and the baby was IDENTICAL to the one I thought I had lost. EVERYTHING was there. The contacts, the calendar, the photos, the music. Absolutely everything. Even the front screen wallpaper was there.

And here’s proof that everything is back to normal. Taken tonight. Morgan Freeman, throwing a very cool vibe at the premiere..

Very good. Watch it. Trust me. I got quite into and even, dare I say, emotional.

Prawns – blatant disregard for human law

I have one question : Will this lawlessness only be addressed when children start being knocked over, as they attempt to re-enact what they’ve seen the prawns doing on the roads?

This “fuck you” attitude displayed by some of the prawns (and I stress “some” of them, who ruin it for the rest) continued at Caprice where prawns were spotted climbing all over the furniture with their damaging “clip-shoe” footwear.

I’m not sure how things work in District 9, but here in the human areas and among our own, we have a very clear understanding about manners and general etiquette. At a very basic level, we obey traffic signals, and we don’t stand on furniture. You need to adhere to these basics – if you wish to coexist. Especially when it comes to bicycles.

A bicycle is the first mode of transport for most human children. They cannot wait to get their first bicycle and probably can’t wait to have the ability to go through red traffic lights, like they see the “adults” (prawns) doing on the road.

Why do you let them do it? Why do you just sit in your car and shake your head? Why don’t you hoot at them? Why don’t you wind down your window and ask them to please stop?

I guess we’ll just have to wait for a child to get hurt before this is addressed.

This, from News24:

Cape Town – A container carrying potentially harmful chemicals washed up on Camps Bay beach on Thursday afternoon, according to Disaster Risk Management.

The owner of the container, whose name has not been confirmed, has been tasked with removing it, Disaster Risk Management’s Charlotte Powell said.

A crane was on its way and Hazmat teams, the police, disaster risk management staff and the fire department were also on the scene.

Police spokesperson Inspector Bernadine Steyn said it was not a criminal matter and no case had been opened.

According to Powell and News24 users on the scene, the tank contains a form of Cresol, a chemical used to make disinfectants and household cleaners, amongst other things.

While exposure to the chemical at low levels is not harmful, it can cause irritation and pain when breathed, ingested or touched.

And so, of course, the time came for me to “de-robe.” Which I did outside (what was) Carlucci’s in Bantry Bay. The FULL rally stopped to allow me a completely non-private moment. Thank God I had a drag on a pinner earlier and the full impact of the moment didn’t set in. (And thank God I gave a little trim the evening before).

Years of investments and successes and failures has proven that this end of the Camps Bay Strip (“Westside”) is in another league of cool, compared to the other end (“Eastside”). There are a number of contributing factors, not least of which being the fact that they (the Westside shop fronts) don’t have a view of the taxi rank and public toilets over the road.

I went for a swim in the Atlantic Ocean at, say, 8am. It was crispy.

I returned to The Safe House and listened to a bit of Bob Dylan (on vinyl – a birthday gift from my G-Man, The Dude and The TBG). After channeling Bob for a while, I was blessed with the arrival of her royal highness, Mavis, at around 09h30 (no rush). She made me some fruit with yoghurt. Nice.

I popped down to Caprice at around 11 and chilled there until 13h00. I tucked into a few 2oceansvibe cocktails and thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment, which included this fellow who may or may not be a foreigner.

That was all a bit much and I returned to The Safe House. But not for long. It seemed the day was not to be wasted and The Photographer pulled round to fetch me, as we descended upon Little Beach, Bakoven.

Funnily enough, I received an email on my phone at that exact point, from The Barndog, showing his view in Durban and commenting that his ocean can also play “lake-lake.” Good effort.

2oceansvibe is a ridiculously popular blog (35 000 unique readers a month) authored by a ridiculously funny man called Seth Rotherham. He’s built up his blog’s culture around a simple phrase – “work is a sideline, live the holiday”. This is exactly what he seems to be doing – while taking his friends (often featured on the blog) and favourite brands along for the ride. We tracked him down via email to answer some questions in the way only he can. Enjoy.

Blogs are arguably not the normal home for the suave and almost-naked-woman surrounded – how did u get into it?

I started 7 years ago before blogging was really happening and/or popular. I just made the site to showcase pictures of friends and beautiful angels taken at parties the previous weekend. Mainly just for my close mates. I used to write the odd funny comment next to the pics and strangers started telling me how they found it funny. That felt weird. And nice. Like when you take a leak in a wetsuit. I continued and here we are today (sans wetsuit).

Work is a Sideline, Live the Holiday – is 2oceansvibe your day job?

Absolutely. Fortunately I’ve developed a system whereby I don’t really have to work. This allows me to focus on 2oceansvibe and, as a result, I can produce this online reality show type vibe and write about what I’m doing which happens to be chilling out doing nice things with nice people. It appeals to the reader as it’s stuff that we all want to do.

Was there a moment of shining light when you thought ‘I’m a lifestyle blogger!’ and if so when did it happen?

Jeez. Probably the day when a 2oceansvibe cocktail appeared on the Caprice Cocktail menu. But seriously, nothing has changed. I started before blogging was a word – I’m just writing about what everyone is talking about.

We like the way you manage to keep advertising entertaining on your blog. Do you find it a tough balance to strike?

Not in the slightest. I only advertise brands I like or want to try. If they let me down, or repeatedly let down/offend my readers (my most adored treasure), they won’t be there any longer. Part of the reason people come to 2oceansvibe is to get recommendations on stuff. I’ve always written about products and brands; what I eat, wear, have and do anyway, whether they’re paid for or not – it’s all real.

You’ve evolved a whole culture around your writing, with characters and ‘angels’ (the number of times you mention the word ‘vibe’ is quite something) – how much conscious planning goes into it?

Not much at all. That is exactly how we/I talk. Nothing on the site is contrived. My friends have always referred to each other as the characters shown on the 2oceansvibe characters list. The Chief, for example, would call me and say, “Have you heard the latest spice about our boy?” I’d go, “Which one.” He’d go, “The Insurance Broker.” “Oooh, no I did not… tell me more!!” and so it goes on.

“The Safe House” has always been called that (2oceansvibe or not) and it’s because it is high up in Camps Bay and lets me look down over everything – feeling safe. We always call chicks angels and I think it’s good that we do – because they are!

Vibe is just the most versatile word. “What’s the vibe” – “Check that guy’s vibe!” – “Howz your vibe?” – “A boring vibe” – “Quite a vibe” – “That angel is giving me a vibe” – it goes one. Which vibe are you referring to, exactly?

Do you promote your blog, or did you when you started? (I can’t imagine you reading posts like 10 tips for growing your readership or Problogger).

Nah, there was never any promotion – purely word of mouth. There are little scandals along the way which allowed the site to gain new readers and continue forward. The most recent was the high profile public spat I had with the Idols Judges. Which resulted in me responding to Randy Abrahams with a video which has been watched over 80,000 times now.

I just grab the bull by the horns when the moment presents itself. I think the secret behind 2oceansvibe is a variation of dare-I-say-it “The Secret” (which is a variation of the same thing covered in every good business book of all time). I look after brands and people I trust. I talk about it. The readers trust me, and they follow my lead. In return the vibe grows. Because it’s a good vibe built on trust. We don’t interact with dicks. Ever.

I tell you, that was nothing but fun, as usual. Thanks to Caprice for putting on such a cool day, as well as Red Bull and the other sponsors involved.

And of course a massive thank you to all the beautiful angels out there who understand that a very thin cloth over their assets can be regarded as clothing.

Every now and then I’ll veer off and try other brands and, if they adhere to these basics, I’ll keep using them. Hell, I’ll even give them a second chance.

Or a third (and final) chance, as was the case with Primi Piatti in Camps Bay, who proudly advertise that they will deliver anywhere in Camps Bay, at no charge.

I decided to treat The Muse to some lamb chops at The Safe House about a week ago and gave them a tinkle. I thought I had a crossed line with someone in Iraq, as the noise was so loud I could have sworn I heard gunfire. The guy was SCREECHING down the line.

“HELLOOOO!!!!!!!!” shrieked the orange oompah loompah.

“Hi, yes, hello there. I’d like to order some chops for delivery please”

“WHAT!!!???” came the desperate sound of a man dying.

“Are you ok?” I asked, worried for the man.

“WHAT????!!!!” he screamed.

I covered the mouth piece of my phone - “This might end in tears,”I informed The Muse as she winced, noticing my “Moer Meter” going up.

“I WANT TO ORDER SOME LAMB CHOPS FOR DELIVERY!!!!”

“Ok”

“Ok?”

“Yes, LAMB CHOPS?!?! You want LAMB CHOPS?”

“Yes!!!!”

“Ok!!!”

“Cool, is that it? Don’t you want my address??”

“Ok!”

“Ok?”

“Yes, give your address!” (he was in the tank now. Taking the call from a satellite phone INSIDE a tank, in a war)

I gave the address. Several times.

“OK!”

“Ok?”

“Yes, we see you now!”

“Don’t you want a credit card number?”

“Ok!”

“Ok?”

“Ok!”

I gave the number. Every four numbers I read out he just said “yes.” It was quite clear that he was trying to remember the card number in his head and wasn’t writing anything down. Jesus, I don’t even do that, and I can recite pi to 75 decimal places.

Surely this wasn’t REALLY happening? Surely I was being Punk’d?

“Can you read that out to me?” I asked, as The Muse tried to remove the knife that I was holding to my throat.

“Can I call the manager?” he asked.

“THE MANAGER!?!?!? WHAT DO YOU MEAN? DID YOU WRITE THE NUMBER DOWN OR NOT?”

“Hold on…”

Oh my sweet fuck, I couldn’t believe what was happening.

The manager came on and took the number down, as well as directions.

An hour went by.

They called. They got lost. I gave the directions again.

They arrived half an hour later.

And at R120 PER PORTION of teensie weensie lamb chops, which were so rich I could have started a hedge fund, I just don’t think it was worth it.

I felt violated.

Seriously, guys, don’t say that you can do something when you can’t. There’s a word I use for that – it’s called “a lie.” Either you train your staff properly to handle it, or leave it completely.

And that, my friends, is the end of it. That was the last time I will order R120 a portion lamb chops for delivery from Primi Piatti Camps Bay . The previous two deliveries failed as a result of pretty much the same thing, only more watered down. The result was the same. Unsatisfied..

Such a pity.

When all you want is a good portion of chops to arrive at your door.

God! It’s so tiresome!

It all started at 1pm, you see. At La Perla. A boys lunch. It was me, “The Big H” and “The Dude” (fresh from his Kika-Sack escapade). In that case you do use “me,” rather than “I.” You should always write it as though the others weren’t there. So if the other guys weren’t there, then I would say “it was me at La Perla.” So then, you stick with “me.” But if you were saying that you all went to La Perla, you would say “The Big H,” “The Dude” and I went to La Perla. Because, if it was just you, it would be “I went to La Perla.”

Get it?

Sorry, that might be confusing, but certainly necessary.

So, anyway, La Perla in Sea Point has undergone major renovations and the result, I must say, is very cool. This, a photo, which I thought would capture the vibe.

So that started at 1pm and progressed very smoothly to 16h00 with a table outside at Caprice, where the likes of Jeannie D, Jo-Ann Strauss and Roxy Louw (direct from the airport) were spotted downing tequilas (partly my fault) until way after sunset. Justine had another section, and I must say, we were pleasantly surprised at the young, very able, Gina.

Nothing much more to report, other than the continuation of the holiday, good times, and a naughty taxi driver who made the mistake of parking in the handicap zone.

I trust your fellow office workers, colleagues and clients understand the Cape Town January Rule? You know, the (no longer) unwritten rule that insists that no-one does or requests anything requiring more than 2/10 effort, for the month of January. FEBRUARY is when the year ACTUALLY starts. Everyone knows that and, if they don’t, send them here so that they can read it in black and white.

It was.

It started with lunch at Caprice, and then it moved onto the beach. And then it came back again.

It was a whirlwind. Like a whirlwind romance, but with no romance – just booze and bodies and extravagance and extreme heat and zero wind.

I’m still not entirely convinced that it all really happened in one day.

I made up a saying that goes, “a picture says a thousand words,” and that’s what is going to happen for the rest of this post.

I hope you enjoyed that. How were those pics of that chick at the beginning? Jesus, the boys weren’t quite sure what was going on when she appeared. And she stood there for 20 minutes – no spice. It was like something out of My StepMother’s An Alien. Honestly, okes were choking on their Mochito’s and stuff. Food was falling off hovering forks.

It was so crazy.

SETH WP – not mine

Umm, no. Whilst I am flattered that you thought of me, I can confidently tell you that that is not my vehicle, nor is it my number plate.

But while we’re here, I would urge readers to pop over to Nash’s website and check it out. He has a recent amusing article regarding the opening of the new Vida e at Constantia Village – rife with cougars, I am told. I ran into Mandy G the other day at Constantia Village and there is definitely an excited mood regarding the arrival of everyone’s favourite brew.

Almost as exciting as the new batch of angels that have started working at Caprice.

Horses, transport or sport?

It was the J&B Met on Saturday. Some of you might know that. I was delivered to the Met in a Chrysler Voyager, by lunatics. The wine-polluted ride there was adventurous, to say the least. For example, the bass from Manny’s car’s “system” was setting off car alarms on the side of the road. I arrived at the met shaken, not stirred.

Oh……kay. So anyway, I pinky-promised myself to never arrive at the J&B Met again in anything that doesn’t resemble a helicopter.

The walk to the Caprice tent was a blur for me, as I avoided the various camera crews who, I had heard, had been alerted of my arrival. I was incognito, with shorts and black and silver Havaianas slops with tigers on them.

Setting up camp on the railing next to the Caprice tent bar, I received an sms from Guy at Tiger Tiger, following my request for a guest list that evening.

“With pleasure, Seth, you’re down for you plus 17″

I replied: “Thanks, Guy. You rock. Just one extra request please. My buddy and I are in shorts – we are the only two in shorts – can we make a plan”

Guy: “List is fine, but absolutely NO SHORTS ALLOWED” (He actually used capitals).

Me: “I understand COMPLETELY. Could you please arrange for two 32 waist jeans to be at the door when we arrive”

Guy: “Seth, you know I can’t do that”

Me: “Why not? Do you have another plan?”

And that was where it ended. We didn’t go to Tiger Tiger that night

The Caprice tent was without doubt the place to be. With a full bar on the house, there was a tendency to order vodka-red-bulls from the get go. (I FUCKING HATE “FROM THE GET GO”). Dave had organised the biggest, hottest tent in the picnic area with two full bars, four plasma screens and enough angels to kill a civilian. Amazingly, Gareth Cliff’s waistcoat was there, with him inside it. Positioned safely on the railing, we had leg room and direct service from the angels. Someone had arranged a light breeze which, with the stunning shade, felt exactly like air conditioning. Combined with a quiet joint, there was no need to move. I had an audience with Dave, who assured me we would have mist machines next year. I thanked him for constantly playing a DVD of our day on the yacht on the plasma screens, featuring, in slowmo, my 8/10 backward dive off the yacht. You just can’t buy that kind of exposure.

Horses ran, some didn’t. It would be boring to mention the horse in the main race that lost its rider. I’ll leave that to the others. Was that really your highlight at the Met? I doubt I have a specific highlight – the whole day in the Cappers tent was the highlight. God, the angels!

Come to think of it, I suppose there was ONE highlight that stands out for me. I was chatting to The Model who was being harassed by an angel wanting his number. He gave her his phone and told her to put her number in, as he returned to our conversation. Then she said that she wanted his number. Continuing our conversation, with his eyes still on me, he reached out his hand and took the phone back. It was never going to be that simple – she wasn’t finished with him. Pulling on his arm like a child begging for a toy gun in Pick n Pay, she said that SHE wanted HIS number.

“Jesus! What?”, he asked – putting our conversation on pause.

“I want YOUR number in MY phone”, she whinged. “What is your number?”

He looked at her like he was watching a car crash. After a few seconds went by, he tossed her his phone, and said, “Phone your phone with my phone” – and returned to our conversation.

Read that last paragraph again.

The after party in the Kreame tent was hilarious and I am happy to report that I left the J&B Met in a good mood – the first time in five years. Dave and co., thank you for spoiling us. Caprice does it well. Always.

(And if they don’t give you a ticket, at least try your luck in the tent hosted by Johann Doms, the Don of the Picnic Area. There are no other options.)

And, while we’re all busy wanking over each other, thanks ALSO for the afternoon on the Ferretti 761 super yacht (which, second hand, quietly retails at about 25 long. Fine.)

I must make mention of the fact that I am in a semi emotional mood at the moment as I have set the iPod to play Bilitis by Francis Lai. If you don’t know it, it is QUITE moving. My folks played it since before I could walk.

I’m back on the scotch now. Ok. Caprice.

I’ll start by saying that many people don’t know that Caprice is not all about Sunday nights. Granted, Sunday nights is, was and always will be their signature night – but don’t knock a breakfast, lunch or early evening drink any time of the week. It’s not all about the mad party – Caprice is also tailor made for chilling out. Caprice is perfect for every mood. Great for Saturday morning breakfasts. If you’re hungover or not in the mood, they understand. You can’t be in your underwear on the bar counter every night of the week. If you want attention, they give it and they understand your insecurities. They are like you. They understand you. In fact, I’ll tell you what…. Fuck Spur, Caprice has a taste for life.

And last night was no exception. Caprice owner, David Raad, deserves a gold medal. Not only is Dave an accomplished closet break dancer (previous article mentioning his skillz can be found here), but also a true embodiment of service. So last night was a Camel party at Cappers. Wow! I’ll say one thing, the angels came out VERY nicely last night. A VERY naughty mid-week party! I see the two blondes who seem to be joined at the hip were there again – the last of the Mohican’s – waiting for their ride to come through town. Don’t worry girls, he’ll come. All over your face, in the back of his laundered Lambo.

So last night was a haven of excitement. All the guests were given “dollars”. Each one equated to 10 South African Rands. Because I felt I was far too important to stop at the front door to sign in, I did not receive my dollars. I sent a sms to Dave who appeared next to me at the bar, stuffing dollars into my jeans and introducing five blondes to me whilst the bar lady had already begun pouring ten tequila’s in front of us – all at the same time. Dave told the girls they should thank me. For what? God only knows. The point is Dave is a fucking legend and he runs a good show. Blues restaurant could learn a thing or two from one of Dave’s farts. Caprice is the institution Blues was in the 80′s.

Even more brilliant was a facility for the partygoers (first time I’ve ever used that word ‘partygoers’ – feels weird) to go up and have their picture taken. There was basically a full on developing service on the premises and each photographed patron would get an A4 print of themselves on the cover of a magazine! But the mind blowing thing was not that. No, no. What really struck me was the name of the magazine was ’2oceansvibe’.

Nothing short of hilarious.

So that’s what this article is all about, really. Cappers. Ignore the idiots. Enjoy yourself. Look around, you’re in a good place. The staff are hysterical. Someone for everyone. The moaners, the groaners, the happy-go-luckies, the hungovers, the perky, the smiley, the sad, the positive, the negative, the bitch, the model, the cow, the youngster, the hippie – they have them all, and we love them all.
