  • GO TO THE SHOPS “LA-STYLE”

I found this photo lying around and realised that it was taken for you. I wanted to show you a great example of how one should dress up when going to the shops on a Saturday or Sunday morning in Cape Town. I call it, “LA Style,” because it’s pretty much how everyone dresses in Los Angeles when they go to the shops. They’ve basically got a competition going on (which they would never admit to) which calls for every citizen to put together the most ludicrous combination of clothing, in an attempt to out-ludicrous each other.

Now I’m not talking about shopping on Rodeo Drive or Robertson Boulevard, I’m talking about those quick stints down to the nearest grocer to pick up bread or milk or a newspaper – stuff that we also do in Cape Town. And what a great opportunity for us to roll with some “LA Style!”

    IMG_0321.jpg
Seth prepares to go to the shops – “LA Style”

As you will notice in the image above, I went with a pair of snake-skin Woolies slippers, combined with the tartan GH Bass trackie pants. A bit of colour never hurts and definitely secures some bonus points – hence the shocking pink Superman T-shirt. The new Prada shades and Puma jacket add some all-important “flash” to the ensemble and, with a tight joint under the bonnet, you’re good to go!

Come on gang, raise your game..

By the way, first prize will always go to the true essence of “LA Style” – which is wearing a dressing gown to the shops. You just can’t beat it – it’s like the Joker in the pack. I often walk down to vida e from the Cape Royale in my dressing gown.

    What a rush..

ps. that photo was taken during a bad patch. I am FAR more tanned now – in Provence..

  • FERRAGAMO SHADES AND ‘COLLAR-AND-CUFF’ TAILORED SHIRTS

Let’s chat about the current “vibe” I’m going for..

I’ve been getting a lot of attention about two things lately. My new shades, and the shirts I’ve been throwing around. People say that I have been “killing it” and they want to know where the goods are from. Look, that’s fair enough..

So instead of having to tell each and every one if you individually, I thought I’d throw this article together, giving you the required information.

I thought I’d go for the “ooooh-mouth” model look for this shot. With my hands up, showing that I’m ready for action. Cautious, but happy to give it a go. Like when Kevin Bacon said “jump back!” in Footloose.

Those of you with weak hearts are urged to cover one eye when looking at the following image.

    IMG_9079.jpg
    Ooooooh!

Indeed, the little switch from Ray Ban is significant, although not altogether surprising. As one of 2oceansvibe’s premium sponsors, Sunglass Hut offer virtually every sunglass brand, not just Ray Ban. That’s why I thought I’d give the Ferragamo’s a bash. Or, if you really want to push it, say the whole brand name – Salvatore Ferragamo. Say that out aloud. You’ll immediately feel sexy.

The second item on the agenda is the shirt. I honestly don’t know where to start. these guys are our most recent premium sponsor and, as with all our sponsors that get accepted, I’m proud to have them on board. They’re called “Collar and Cuff” and here’s the scoop:

Collar and Cuff Shirts delivers an age old tradition of excellent service and craftsmanship, and presents it on a modern interactive platform. Allowing men and women the ability to create their own individual appearance and style. Collar and Cuff clients will enjoy the personal shopping experience we offer, resulting in a perfectly fitted and designed tailored shirt.

Combining the finest 100% cotton, including premium range and 2 ply Italian shirting fabrics, along with the best components from buttons to threads, we not only maintain the very best in shirt making methods but also pride ourselves on our impeccable quality control. We proudly stand by the fact that our bespoke shirts will fit perfectly and are a pleasure to wear.

The website is INCREDIBLE. They let you tailor make your shirt and choose everything from the style of collar and cuffs, to the fabric of the shirt, as well as the lining. You can even add detail (like I did) including your initials or a different thread for the top button. My first three shirts arrived and they are RIDICULOUSLY awesome. I am yet to not receive a comment when wearing them publicly.

And the packaging…my God, it even comes with a proper red wax seal!

    Naughty!

    IMG_9082.jpg
    Come now..

You see, that’s what I’m talking about. Why would they not be an approved 2oceansvibe brand?

So I hope that helps. Check out the Collar & Cuff website and tailor make your own shirt.

I’m currently working with the owner on the ultimate white shirt. It will be called the “2oceansvibe Shirt” and will have all those little extra’s that you wish you had. Like a slightly shorter back length to the shirt – so you can wear the shirt tucked in, or out.

Will let you know when it’s ready.

    You’re welcome.

  • THE ELLE MAGAZINE INTERVIEW – IN FULL

In November I alerted you about the Seth Rotherham feature in the ELLE Magazine. I didn’t publish it in full on these pages, as the magazine was still in circulation. It is now off the shelves and has coincidentally become one of their most successful issues ever. Weird.. especially with that issue of YOU Magazine breaking similar records *cough* lest we forget the highest number of viewers ever that the Top Billing TV feature received.

But let’s not go on about “boosting” numbers and “breaking records” – I just thought that I would show you the ELLE interview, now that the magazine is sold out.

    BANG!

    FEEL IT INSIDE YOU

Good times. Did you know about my “C-TAP” nickname?

It’s funny.. I regularly get into what pot-smokers describe as a “zone” during interviews and, when published, I often don’t remember what I said at the time.

My favourite answer would have to be the one about the dolphins. That really made me chuckle.

And howz that pic of me and my labrador? Her name was Katie.

    KAAATIE, KATIE, KATIE, KATIE, KATIEEEEEEE!

    FOOODIE, FOODIE, FOODIE, FOODIE, FOODIEEEES!!!!

  • 2OCEANSVIBE FEATURE ON “TOP BILLING” TV SHOW

The cries from the 2oceansvibers out there who missed the 2oceansvibe feature on SA’s number one TV magazine show, Top Billing, were overwhelming. I knew I had to SOMEHOW get it onto the web for you to see!

Just to run you through the process – I recorded the show on my PVR decoder at The Safe House. So what that does is it stores the show in digital format on the PVR machine – for use at home. There is no facility to transfer this data from the machine to another machine, or computer, or disc or flash drive. Granted, there is a USB port on the decoder – but it doesn’t do anything,

So my friends at iKraal lent me a VIDEO MACHINE. That’s right – an old school style VHS video player/recorder. Awesome! I would hook up the machine between the PVR and the TV and record the show! There was only one problem – I needed a VHS tape..

Not the easiest thing in the world, I’m sure you can imagine. I went to Caldis on Long Street where the staff completely ignored me and managed to muster a mumble confirming that they had no VHS tapes. A very different attitude to when I bought the several plasma screens and DVD players and stereos in the past.

So anyway, should you ever require a VHS tape, I can confirm that Pick n’ Pay at the Waterfront sells them. I got a TDK 180 – quite mean! So I took that home, recorded the show from PVR onto tape and took the tape to iKraal, who have the facilities to transfer that video BACK into digital format! From there I could put it on “le web” – which is what the French call it.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how we got to this point!

So sit back, relax and enjoy the 2oceansvibe feature from SABC 3′s Top Billing show, 15 October, 2009. Wait for the box to load under this sentence and press play!

*Slow connections are advised to press pause to let it load up before playing.

    I’m fine with that..

  • THE 2OCEANSVIBE “YOU MAGAZINE” ARTICLE

Well would you believe it, I’m in the latest YOU Magazine! Even more exciting is that I’m in the issue with SA gold medalist, Caster Semenya, on the cover! And they’ve dressed her up all woman-like! Awesome!

I don’t quite know what to say. I mean, do you think I come across sexy enough? I just wish they had used some of the other shots they took. Like the ones of me doing yoga with my shirt off. Or the ones of me in the shower (yes, obviously from behind).

    Those were HOT!!

  • SETH’S INCREDIBLE DISTRICT 9 DISCOVERY!

Look, this has got absolutely nothing to do with District 9, other than the fact that it involves an alien.

    E.T. to be exact.

It’s an old pic of me as a kid which I’ve been toying with for, like, an eternity. I didn’t know what to do with it, but I realised it had to find its way onto 2oceansvibe. I just knew you had to see it, especially the girls out there, because I look so goddamn gorgeous with my golden curls.

Finally, with the arrival of District 9, I found an obscure topic to connect it to.

Chew on this for a bit.

So ja, I guess you can say that the aliens have accepted me.

And to the girls out there – looking at that pic you’re probably thinking things like “how adorable” and that kind of rubbish. Well let me tell you right now for a FACT, I would have HAD you….right there and then. I know this because I have first hand knowledge of what was going through my head at the time.

    And it was you.

    Naked.

Dancing in front of me with half a bottle of vodka in your hand and a joint in your mouth.

  • TOP GEAR’S “THE STIG” REVEALS IDENTITY

There have been all sorts of claims and suggestions as to the Top Gear TV show mystery precision driver, The Stig’s identity over the years. While it is understood that they have changed from time to time (previous article here), yesterday’s Top Gear show (jokingly) revealed someone who you probably didn’t expect. One of the biggest names in Formula 1 history – Michael Schumacher..

    283797989 commission schumacher
    Michael Schumacher revealed
    as “The Stig”

    This, from The Mirror:

Top Gear’s The Stig takes off his mask to reveal Michael Schumacher

The German seven-times former Formula One champion dramatically took off the Stig’s famous white helmet and winked during an interview with presenter Jeremy Clarkson.

The studio audience had urged him to reveal his true identity chanting “off, off, off” after Schumacher, 40, made a surprise appearance on the show.

But the unveiling may have been a hoax. Many viewers were unconvinced, believing that the white overalls and helmet are shared by several drivers.

A BBC insider admitted it was done “as a joke.” A BBC spokesman said: “We never reveal who or what the Stig is.”

    [more here]

    Naughty, Michael!

Ja, good one. Don’t forget to check out our previous article about The Stig’s identity (here).

That story has nothing to do with the fact that Michael Schumacher is a massive fan of 2oceansvibe. Here we are together a few years back.

  • MY NEW HEIDI KLUM T-SHIRT + GENERAL 2OCEANSVIBE INSTRUCTIONS

I MUST show you the Heidi Klum T-shirt I bought in Avignon whilst donning those white Ray Bans I mentioned the other day (from the new Ray Ban Colorize collection at Sunglass Hut).

It is, quite simply, one of the most awesome T-shirts of your life.

    Check it out:

    seth-heidi
    Please excuse the pout
But, you know, what’s a guy to do?

That’s Heidi barely covering her vibe and pulling a zap. I’ve been looking for that T-shirt for a few years now and I just cannot describe to you how I felt when I found it in Avignon – pure.elation.

I know you want one and I must say that they’re very hard to find. But I just searched for you for an hour and found this website, in another language. Better than nothing, huh?

2oceansvibe Twitter followers would have seen that pic a few days ago. That’s because they have their finger on the pulse and they’re “down with it” (a saying I made up a few years back – use it, don’t use it).

Remember to follow 2oceansvibe on Twitter (here) to get all the behind the scenes action. There will be loads to come over the next few weeks as we welcome a whole bunch of 2oceansvibe Characters to the bastide in Menerbes. Including The Silent Assassin, The Fabrics Guy, The Surfer, The Inside Centre and The Muse.

Also remember that 2oceansvibers who Subscribe To The Vibe – (do it NOW here) get weekly newsletters, as well as all the behind the scenes action, photos, freebies, restaurant favours, special favours, special powers etc. etc.

You won’t BELIEVE who is on that list.. If you’re not, then it’s nothing short of emboerboer.

    Mboert.

  • BETTY BOOP HAS MOVED IN WITH ME

I bought this little Betty Boop figurine/doll type vibe in London.

    Is that ok?

    bettyboop
    Betty Boop
    Smoking hot..

Cost me 40 quid, that did; and I can’t say for sure WHY I bought it. It just sucked me in, tractor-beam, wrrrrrrrr.

I had just finished off a couple pints with The Inside Centre and was cruising down the high street and Betty Boop was basically PRESSING her body against the (dare I say) “bric-a-brac” shop window. She was openly flirting with me from inside the shop. I couldn’t hear what she was saying, but her mouth seemed to be saying, “Don’t you want a piece of this?”

I walked out with her, arm in arm, less than ten minutes later.

[New readers should note that I'm an only child and was raised in a home with 1,000 antique porcelain dolls and a pack of a Yorkshire Terriers. And if that wasn't enough I had a computer from age 6 to keep me company.]

We end off with a showcase of Betty Boop’s more risqué appearances!

  • TECH SMART 2OCEANSVIBE INTERVIEW

I had an interview the other day with the cool cats at TechSmart.co.za. I thought it went very well.

    techsmart

    Here’s a little tid bit:

Six awards including blog of the year, best original writing and most humorous. Did this come as a surprise?

With six nominations, I certainly was hoping to get at least one or two. But six? And the best overall? No – I simply refused to think that far. I lived with professional rugby players for a few years in my early 20’s and talking about winning before a match was taboo in our house. “Jinxing” the match and all that, is an absolute no-no!

When did you start blogging and why?

About seven years ago, before blogs were really blogs. I just made a website to showcase photos of parties that my friends and I had been to the previous weekend. Just for everyone to see. In the days when my buddies had internet access, but no email. Then I started commenting on the pics and writing little stories to fill the spaces. Strangers told me they enjoyed it which was weird – but appealing. They found it funny and urged me to keep writing. I enjoyed writing (and still do) so I continued!

What inspires you to blog everyday?

Just everything I do and see and think. Like any discussion you would have with a friend in a bar or a braai or a restaurant – exactly the same thing, except I type it for everyone else to see as well. Whatever I’m talking about, I’m writing about.

CLICK HERE for the rest of le interview.

Thanks for the good times, guys.

    And the great jokes.

  • FROM THE COUCH PART 2

Last week I gave you the first part (here) of my interview I did with the From the Couch boys in Hout Bay.

    Loads of fun.

    Here is the second part:

You enjoy that Baby float joke at the end?

Ja, thought you might. I was thinking about making you smile at the time.

I got the joke from Dan Nicholl. Which he probably got from me in another life.

  • A BIRTHDAY MESSAGE ABOUT ENEMIES

I had a pant load of messages so far and thanks to everyone on phone, sms, email, facefuck, twitter, as well as the telepathic message I’m getting.

Colin and Lisa took top spot this year – from the States it was easy for them to send a message at 4am. Jonty Fisher nails the official list at top spot with a cool 06h06 sms. Well done, Jonty. Sammy dropped from last year’s top spot to third, after Len. Good work, guys. Nice.

Interesting highlights include Johann’s big push up the rankings from 20 last year to number 6 this year! Very impressive. His only question was where Murray came (his rival for my affections). Murray pipped him by one..

Still coming in thick and fast. Well done to Jos and Robbo, for coming in sub-20 which is obviously pretty early in the day for Fleck’s crew.

It’s going to be interesting.. we’ll see what happens. There are still some big names that are expected to beat the noon day gun.

    Got this from Nic J:

Hey Seth, Thanks for inspiring a nation, may you live forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then he also gave me this:

    untitled

Toward the end of Sunday service, the Minister asked, ‘How many of you have forgiven your enemies?’

    80% held up their hands.

The Minister then repeated his question.

All responded this time, except one small elderly lady.

‘Mrs. Neely?’; ‘Are you not willing to forgive your enemies?’

I don’t have any.’ She replied, smiling sweetly.

‘Mrs. Neely, that is very unusual. How old are you?’

    ‘Ninety-eight.’ she replied.

‘Oh, Mrs. Neely, would you please come down in front & tell us all how a person can live ninety-eight years & not have an enemy in the world?’
The little sweetheart of a lady tottered down the aisle, faced the congregation, and said:

    ‘I’ve outlived the bitches.’

    Nice.

    Real nice.

    And don’t forget:

    It’s your birthday
We gon’ party like it’s yo birthday
We gon’ sip Bacardi like it’s your birthday
And you know we don’t give a fuck
    It’s not your birthday!

I trust everyone saw the jersey I got from The Muse on my Twitter?

  • IT’S MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!

It really crept up on me this year. Goodness! Amazing, it feels like just yesterday that I got my Louis Vuitton satchel for the first day of school. And now look – I’m a fully developed man! Quietly cruising around doing what feels nice. And no parents around, whatsoever! How do I remain so relatively stable? God only knows.

    Mail0l001
Seth, dreaming of palm trees and champagne

But I must just hand this birthday over to you. There is no need to celebrate my birthday. Because, as you know, there is a little piece of each of you inside my body (and me yours). This is, essentially, your birthday.

So happy birthday to YOU, 2oceansvibe readers. And thank you for being so perfect and smelling so beautiful.

If you INSIST on getting me something for my birthday, why don’t you CLICK HERE and cast your vote for the 2009 Blog Awards . That will be sufficient, I promise.

Declarations of love and cleavage shots with “Happy Birthday Seth” written across your chest, can be sent to editor@2oceansvibe.com – that won’t be a problem.

You can leave comments under this post, you can write all over my Facefuck page, you can Twitter me – the options are endless!

Oh, if you MUST send something of great value, send to PO BOX 227, Green Point, Cape Town, South Africa, 8051.

I gotta go play with this Brazilian model that a wealthy friend had delivered to The Safe House this morning so, without any further adieu, here is the usual birthday video…

    It’s your birthday
We gon’ party like it’s yo birthday
We gon’ sip Bacardi like it’s your birthday
And you know we don’t give a fuck
    It’s not your birthday!

[happy birthday also to Thor, Steyn and Nick]

I recorded a very special urgent 2oceansvibe public announcement/pledge yesterday on Camps Bay beach. It’s pretty big and it’s pretty deep and it concerns every one of you. I strongly urge you to watch the video, as our future basically depends on it.

I cannot force you to watch it, but if you don’t, I can’t help you.

TIP: Pause video when it starts and let it load up fully before you play. Handy for slow broadband users..

  • LATEST 2OCEANSVIBE INTERVIEW

I get asked a lost of similar questions by a lot of people and was very impressed with Idea Bounty‘s various angles in our recent interview, because it gave me the opportunity to lay it all down.

    Check it out.

    Interview: Seth Rotherham from 2oceansvibe
    Katharina Scholtz

2oceansvibe is a ridiculously popular blog (35 000 unique readers a month) authored by a ridiculously funny man called Seth Rotherham. He’s built up his blog’s culture around a simple phrase – “work is a sideline, live the holiday”. This is exactly what he seems to be doing – while taking his friends (often featured on the blog) and favourite brands along for the ride. We tracked him down via email to answer some questions in the way only he can. Enjoy.

    2oceansvibe 304
Image credit: Andrew VC – verstercohen.com

Blogs are arguably not the normal home for the suave and almost-naked-woman surrounded – how did u get into it?

I started 7 years ago before blogging was really happening and/or popular. I just made the site to showcase pictures of friends and beautiful angels taken at parties the previous weekend. Mainly just for my close mates. I used to write the odd funny comment next to the pics and strangers started telling me how they found it funny. That felt weird. And nice. Like when you take a leak in a wetsuit. I continued and here we are today (sans wetsuit).

Work is a Sideline, Live the Holiday – is 2oceansvibe your day job?

Absolutely. Fortunately I’ve developed a system whereby I don’t really have to work. This allows me to focus on 2oceansvibe and, as a result, I can produce this online reality show type vibe and write about what I’m doing which happens to be chilling out doing nice things with nice people. It appeals to the reader as it’s stuff that we all want to do.

Was there a moment of shining light when you thought ‘I’m a lifestyle blogger!’ and if so when did it happen?

Jeez. Probably the day when a 2oceansvibe cocktail appeared on the Caprice Cocktail menu. But seriously, nothing has changed. I started before blogging was a word – I’m just writing about what everyone is talking about.

We like the way you manage to keep advertising entertaining on your blog. Do you find it a tough balance to strike?

Not in the slightest. I only advertise brands I like or want to try. If they let me down, or repeatedly let down/offend my readers (my most adored treasure), they won’t be there any longer. Part of the reason people come to 2oceansvibe is to get recommendations on stuff. I’ve always written about products and brands; what I eat, wear, have and do anyway, whether they’re paid for or not – it’s all real.

You’ve evolved a whole culture around your writing, with characters and ‘angels’ (the number of times you mention the word ‘vibe’ is quite something) – how much conscious planning goes into it?

Not much at all. That is exactly how we/I talk. Nothing on the site is contrived. My friends have always referred to each other as the characters shown on the 2oceansvibe characters list. The Chief, for example, would call me and say, “Have you heard the latest spice about our boy?” I’d go, “Which one.” He’d go, “The Insurance Broker.” “Oooh, no I did not… tell me more!!” and so it goes on.

“The Safe House” has always been called that (2oceansvibe or not) and it’s because it is high up in Camps Bay and lets me look down over everything – feeling safe. We always call chicks angels and I think it’s good that we do – because they are!

Vibe is just the most versatile word. “What’s the vibe” – “Check that guy’s vibe!” – “Howz your vibe?” – “A boring vibe” – “Quite a vibe” – “That angel is giving me a vibe” – it goes one. Which vibe are you referring to, exactly?

Do you promote your blog, or did you when you started? (I can’t imagine you reading posts like 10 tips for growing your readership or Problogger).

Nah, there was never any promotion – purely word of mouth. There are little scandals along the way which allowed the site to gain new readers and continue forward. The most recent was the high profile public spat I had with the Idols Judges. Which resulted in me responding to Randy Abrahams with a video which has been watched over 80,000 times now.

I just grab the bull by the horns when the moment presents itself. I think the secret behind 2oceansvibe is a variation of dare-I-say-it “The Secret” (which is a variation of the same thing covered in every good business book of all time). I look after brands and people I trust. I talk about it. The readers trust me, and they follow my lead. In return the vibe grows. Because it’s a good vibe built on trust. We don’t interact with dicks. Ever.

You should definitely continue reading that interview as there is loads more (including some more ridiculous pics) – some of it pretty amusing I am told.

Thanks again, Kat – thoroughly enjoyed that!

I’m getting quite a few emails regarding the latest issue of Get It Magazine which hit the shelves this weekend. It’s a free magazine, but look, it’s got a glossy cover!

They’re out of stock at the moment and are apparently replenished every few days. So those of you who missed it, here it is.

  • A QUICK FRENCH WEATHER REPORT

My folks sent me this pic outside the house in Ménerbes. It’s pretty much exactly the opposite of the weather we’re having in Cape Town.

    Provence – right now

    Shopping becomes tricky..

It should be noted that, besides being home to such notables as director Ridley Scott, the mayor of Ménerbes happens to be none other than Yves Rousset-Rouard – the man who created and produced the Emmanuelle films.

The guy basically found soft porn.

What more would you want from your mayor?
