As with any glamourous event, The Vibe party has a prize for the best dressed couple - The Boschendal Best Dressed Award. Our judge was none other than La Muse from SA’s #1 street fashion blog, PopYaCollar.co.za and she was looking for a couple that best understood the theme and vibe.

BEST DRESSED COUPLE AWARD

The competition was pretty tight, but in the end La Muse gave the award to Steve van rooyen & Aneta Skrzeszewska. What a fab couple – absolutely NAILING IT all in white!

I cannot believe how quickly this day has come. And I must say a big well done to those of you who did the right thing and bought your tickets before they sold out. There are only 90 tickets left now, so good luck to your friends who left it to the last minute. They are nothing short of hilarious.

Because of the volume of people and the size of the venue (The Grand Cafe & Beach) we have been able to give you such radical value for money, including weird and wonderful things like a Candy & Chocolate shop (courtesy of The Wings Group), which will be serving free waffles and candy chocolates all day (starts at 12noon). I’ll be taking it easy with those waffles, because I’ll need some space for the oysters, which will be coming out at 6pm. We’ve got enough for 700 people – so you should be cool..

By the way, THE DRESS is beach/bikini chic during the day and anything that looks sexy enough to carry on through to the evening. You should look relaxed but effortlessly classy at the same time. Basically just do what you usually do when you’re being awesome.

You’ll need it, as you pose alongside your crew, with your Peroni, Boschendal bubbly or De Grendel wine in your hand – which everyone will be served on arrival. Don’t panic if you don’t enjoy booze, because Ceres will be serving soft drinks for everyone!

If you were wondering about entertainment I should mention that Crazy White Boy will be performing their new single, during DJ Sox‘s set (from 12noon to 6pm). After that we will have Judy Brown from Liquid Sax performing on the beach with her saxophone, followed by drummers, percussionists, more DJs and fire dancers.

We’re even setting up a mini Puma Social Club, just for you!

From 8pm to midnight, DJ Mr. Mo will get the party into full swing with Zip Zap circus and stilt walkers breathing another kind of life into the party. It’s Willy Wonka meets Alice in Wonderland. On an island. In Hollywood. If that makes any sense..

The lighting and decor will completely blow you away and, just when you thought you had seen it all, BANG, pizzas will be served by actual angels at 10pm. That’s your second wind, right there.

“Taf” from Sketchbooktrails contacted me about doing an oil painting of yours truly. I had never had an “oil” done of me and was more than flattered by the gesture – especially since she said she was also doing one of Goldfish (The Blonde and Baby Jesus)

“Sure thing,” I told her. “Do I have to pose or something? ‘Cos if I do it’s gonna be tricky, as I struggle to sit still. Unless maybe I could play with my iPad while we do it?”

“No, no,” she replied. “I’ve got just the picture!”

“Oh…. which one is that?” I enquired, nervously.”

Justifiably so, as it seems she had chosen this picture taken from my on-stage Celine Dion miming session I did with Ard Matthews for “The Vibe” party earlier this year!

God help us all!

But there was nothing to worry about because, as it turns out, this chick’s got talent!

  
Baby, think twice…
NO NO NO NOOOO!

We met for a drink at the Cape Royale hotel the other night and I must just say that she is the sweetest angel I have met in a long time. Having held on for as long as possible in Zimbabwe, Taf finally moved here and paid her way through Engineering at UCT by selling paintings. Oh, and she is self-taught. JA, I know – it’s ridiculous. But there is more to her story, which you will learn when you meet her. Her Zim chapter doesn’t even begin to tackle the challenges she has faced and overcome.

“Fattered” doesn’t even begin to describe how knocked-out I am about this. Thank you, Taf, you have a special gift and I think what you’re doing is amazing.

Just to fill you all in,

Sketchbooktrails is the web-based art initiative of the artist, Tafadzwa Mukwashi (Taf). She has recently started work on a collection of 100 portraits entitled “Facing a Century” with the first of the portraits being of the music duo, Dominic Peters and David Poole of the world renowned band, Goldfish, who have just recently completed a tour in Brazil. Whether it takes a year or a decade, she intends to have successfully completed 100 portraits of real people.

Sketchbooktrails not only proves that much can be accomplished from whatever background someone comes from through sheer perseverance and effort. It also is a great testament to the great resource that the African girl-child and African women are. It is the success story of a young black immigrant living in South Africa.

Previous exhibitions of Taf’s paintings include a sold-out solo exhibition, Nature’s Child in 2003 in Picasso’s Gallery, Zimbabwe held in support of Childline, the Ekurhuleni Fine Art Award 2006 Finalist Exhibition in Johannesburg in 2006, ‘Contemporary Visions of Southern Africa’ Exhibition at the Pretoria Art Museum in 2007 and the “Justice For All” Art Auction at the Goethe Institute in 2008 held in support of the Legal Resources Centre (LRC).

Did you enjoy the subliminal advertising? With the brands flashing up quickly during the playback? Very naughty. You leave the video thinking, “Christ, I’d kill for a bottle of De Grendel right now!”

It’s quite fortunate that one doesn’t have to think too clearly when dealing with photographs, because my head is not in the correct space to entertain thought. For example these pics. You don’t have to THINK too much to decipher the fact that the angels at The Vibe party were smoking hot and the party was completely off the chain.

Shame, I know – very kak, hey?

But those pics don’t even scratch the surface, my boet. You need to check out the rest, including so many hot angels and crazy people, you may well feel faint! 262 photographs, all in all!

Did I tell you that there were hot blondes on stilts delivering Butlers pizza to everyone at the party? Did I tell you I arrived in a puff of smoke and sang a Celine Dion song? It’s all true.
