I’m not sure who made this, and, whilst we certainly might not condone the contents, you simply have to see it.

Come now… it’s too much!

I’ve just watched the trailer to the new Sherlock Holmes movie with Robert Downey Jr., Rachel McAdams, Mark Strong and Jude Law. It’s directed by Guy Ritchie and I tell you what, it looks bloody MAGIC!

I know. It’s R to the AD! I was smiling the whole way through and even laughed at the end. FACT.

Aah ja – I’m THOROUGHLY looking forward to that movie and am so stoked that Rob is back – like PROPERLY back! We all need him in our lives. He is so necessary.

Just to recap:

Sherlock Holmes is a fictional character of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries who first appeared in publication in 1887. He is the creation of Scottish-born author and physician Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. A brilliant London-based “consulting detective”, Holmes is famous for his intellectual prowess, and is renowned for his skillful use of astute observation, inductive reasoning and inference to solve difficult cases. In virtually all of his appearances, he is portrayed as the protagonist.

Awesome!

It should be mentioned at this point that I lived in the same street as one of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s residences (he clearly wasn’t there anymore, but there was a plaque on the wall outside the door) in Marylebone, when I first hit the London scene in the late 90′s. W1, baby – that’s how I roll.

They will make many many of these Sherlock Holmes films. It will be the new Bond. But better, because they haven’t gone so far down the road and lost the magic (please prove me wrong with the next Bond – I miss it). They’ve got gadgets, girls, action and all sorts of fun in this new Holmes vibe it seems. Whereas Bond, these days, doesn’t even say “Bond, James Bond” anymore.

How sad is that? He didn’t say it in the most recent Bond!

RELAX! I won’t write the name on the screen and spoil it for those who think they can avoid all global mainstream media in the lead up to the day the final is played on South African television.

So, those of you who want to know who won American Idol, check out this video.

Ok, so there you have it.

Interesting to note that our version is called IDOLS (plural) and we had two winners. Whereas the American version is called American IDOL (singular), which resulted in one winner.

Maybe that was where the problem lay?

I spotted The Killers performing at the end of The Late Show with David Letterman (the one with Tom Hanks). They were SO pumped it was RADICAL! I was genuinely sucked in and was just staring at the screen with my mouth open, covered in goose bumps. They had a full orchestra there as well. The lead singer, the drummer, the whole band…. they were on fire and just SO charged and oozing passion that I HAD to find it on the euronet and show it to you.

I always enjoyed The Killers, but my GOD this live performance of “A Dustland Fairytale” has changed everything. It’s different now.

Please try play this on good sound – it deserves it. Slow at first. Then it kicks in at the 1:45 mark. And then it kicks in again PROPERLY at the 2:22 mark. But you need to watch the whole thing through from th start.

Hey? Two words – AWE SOME! That song sounds so different to me now – than what it did before. I love the way he bounces whilst he sings. And the drummer’s wry smile in the background. Who, by the way, looks EXACTLY like Ron Eldard’s character “John Reilly” (here) in the movie Sleepers. I know you agree.

The clip is misses what happens after that. Enjoy this – Letterman comes on stage and says to lead singer Brandon Flowers, “Let’s get a van and maybe ride around tonight, alright? Yeah – and maybe tease people. Maybe rough some guys up, what do you say?”

How hilarious is that? The band wasn’t sure – they were smiling nervously, like, “Ummm yeah, that sounds cool.”

Quirky. That’s what he is. Dave the quirkster.

So, anyway – I thought you might want to do what I did and buy the album now.

This happened quite some time ago, but recent conversations have led me to believe that you might have missed it. It’s truly awesome and I assure you it will be very much enjoyed.

It’s a video of the first winner of the US version of Who Wants To Be a Millionaire. The winner’s name is John Carpenter and you can read more about him here later. But, for now, you should check this out.

The cool thing about the video is not the fact that he won – it’s just the WAY he did it. Something to do with his life lines…

Hahahaha! Oh God, this is just stunning! I’ve just found out that the Julius Malema puppet used in the recent Nando’s ads, has been sold at an auction for R100,000.

For those of you out of the loop, Nando’s very recently got into a bit of kak (or not really) after some controversial ads were released, featuring a puppet of the president of the ANC Youth League, Julius Malema.

This, from News24:

Johannesburg – The Julius Malema puppet has been auctioned off for R100 000, Nando’s said on Thursday.

The puppet which starred in the fast food chain’s recent TV advert and became a “celebrity overnight” was sold to Ryan Lotter from Johannesburg.

It was auctioned for a charity group that funds, among other things, courses in woodwork, the subject Malema notoriously scored a GG for in matric.

“We are very sad to see Julius go because we have become very fond of him and has become a highlight in the office.

“We did however offer him one last Nando’s lunch and he’s always invited to Nando’s anytime,” Nando’s brand manager Lara Easthorpe said in a statement.

According to a report on Independent Online, Lotter said he was considering giving his new puppet to Democratic Alliance leader Helen Zille who Malema recently called a “racist little girl”.

Bidding in the auction went through The Star newspaper and ended at midnight on Wednesday.

The puppet first starred in an advert mocking the ANC Youth League leader’s “demand for change”.

“You order a quarter peri-peri chicken with chips and a cooldrink for R33.95,” said the puppet.

“You pay with R40, you get R6.05 change, but if you pay with R100, you get R66.05 change. That’s more change than you paid for the meal in the first place.”

After it was screened the ANCYL threatened “militant action” if Nando’s did not withdraw it. The chicken outlet, known for its risqué advertising campaigns, responded by reflighting the ad with the face of “Julius” blurred and his voice distorted.

It also featured a running strip at the bottom of the screen, declaring that the picture and sound had been masked to protect innocent parties.

Nando’s responded that they had done nothing wrong and apparently they all had a big meeting, which included the ANC Youth League’s surprise at the fact that a black gentleman had been involved in the team that came up with the viral ad. This, following the usual accusations of racism.

Role play has always been enjoyed here at 2oceansvibe. You may have picked up that The Roofer enjoys quite a bit of surfing exposure, whilst The Surfer himself has recently been spotted (with great success , I might add) trying his hand at photography (here). Not that this should effect the title of The Photographer. It’s just a bit of role play. And we’re FINE with it!

Like this recent video of The Surfer enjoying a bit of tractor time – a pastime usually reserved for The Fruit Farmer.

Things are SO crazy around here at the moment!

A couple months back we brought you one of the funniest ads of your life, featuring a BMX that a guy was selling (here). That has nothing to do with this article, other than the fact that it involves a bike of sorts. I just mentioned that to, you know, bring across an air on continuity on these esteemed pages.

So today I have a video I was sent featuring a guy doing urban stunts on a mountain bike.

You gotta check this out..

That was none other than Danny MacAskill.

Wikipedia tells us:

Danny MacAskill is a stunt cyclist who released a five-and-a-half-minute video on YouTube on the 19th April 2009, filmed by his flat mate Dave Sowerby. This film has attracted massive attention on the internet and is a form of bike trials.

As of 21 April 2009, Danny, a twenty-three year old from the Isle of Skye, had been practising for more than 12 years. He gave up his job as a mechanic so he could ride full time. He now lives in Edinburgh. He often listens to music while riding.

Danny draws a lot of skill from influential riders of the trials scene including Martyn Ashton, Chris Akrigg, Mathew Street, Michael Judson, Kenny Wilson, Fraser McNeil and Brian Bleech.

Interesting name he is sporting there. “MacAskill.” Would make a good name for a new line of free-range Macdonald rump burgers – The Mac Ass Kill.

We have a few announcements today. Firstly, Goldfish have followed the trend set by The Dirty Skirts and have given 2oceansvibe the exclusive release of their new music video, Cruising Through .

Let’s have a look at that, and then we’ll check out the email I received from Goldfish (currently in Brazil), as well as the South African Music Awards.

You’ll enjoy this video. It’s shot around Cape Town and features Sakhile (the man behind the voice) as the stressed-out 9 to 5er, showing his existence compared to that of the two Goldfish boys, Dom and Dave – as they cruise around Cape Town chilling out, surfing and living the holiday.

Greetings from Brazil where the Fishies are flying the Flag out here. Sun, warm water and Samba. It’s not all bad… Seriously though, Brazil is completely off the chain and we’ve been having a blast. Locked in to some cooking surf and Caipirinhas on the beach in Buzios, a party town 2 hrs north of Rio. The Brazilians are amazing people and sure know how to party, always a bit weird though when you start playing your first Goldfish track in a town you’ve never heard of before and the crowd starts singing the words right back to you!

Still have some dates in Brasilia, Sao Paulo and Belo Horizonte before we head back on Saturday for the South African Music Awards at Sun City.

Now, back to the South African Music Awards (SAMA’s) – I need to make you all very aware that Goldfish are up for a record breaking 8 SAMA’s – the most ever in the 15 year history of the awards! Not bad for a couple of Cape Town boys who started out all those years ago on the Camps Bay strip at Baraza.

Oh my God, I just had a little look and found one of the early articles I wrote about Goldfish in 2004, during their Baraza days. The heading is “BARAZA – CAMPS BAY” and the sub-heading is “Enjoy these goons.”
