OK, so I don’t claim to know a heck of a lot about macro economic policy, national Anglo trans-administration fiscal health, or even the projected recovery gradient of the British economy over the next five years.
But two things, I know for sure.
1) The English ruling classes are humour gods, and…
2) England’s flat broke.
This, from The Times:
Liam Byrne, the former Chief Secretary to the Treasury, last week wrote a letter for his successor – the Liberal Democrat David Laws – stating: “I’m afraid to tell you there’s no money left.”
Clearly, Liam Byrne has been taking comedy master classes from London Mayor, Boris Johnson.
Well done, Liam. If you’re going to go out, go out with a raspberry.
Sad thing is, it probably wouldn’t have been half as funny if it wasn’t totally true.
Right now would probably be a great time for the UK government to buy a lottery ticket.
