  • WHO DECIDES TAXI NAMES?

03 Aug 2010 by Seth Rotherham in Cars, Quality Humour, Spotted Around Town, Very Cool

Some people want to know what happens when we die. Personally, I think there are far more pressing issues at hand. Like, WHO comes up with the names on the back of taxis? I’m not kidding – this is important shit.

I really think these back window messages have been sent to test me. Not that they upset me – they simply confuse me. It seems the more left-field they are, the better. I often find myself frozen, jaw agape, shaking my head at the sheer genius of the irrelevance of the phrase.

I saw an absolute killer on my way to Stanford on Sunday for lunch at Mariana’s!

    Check this vibe:

    3MISSEDCALLS.jpg

    OH

    MY

    GOD

Where did that come from? What does it mean? I know it is the kind of thing you find on a cellphone – but is that somehow linked to being cool? Is having three missed calls a cool thing to have? Or is the person who chose to print that and stick it on the back window, perhaps having an issue with an ex-girlfriend? Has she not answered three of his calls in a row?

What made them think of it? WHY did that particular phrase make it onto the back window? Does one guy make all of them for the taxis? Is it a “syndicate?” Or does each driver decide his own vibe?

It’s ridiculous nothingness and genius at the same time! I tell you, I would KILL for that job. But, to be honest, I wouldn’t be very good at it. I could never come up with something so mundane. And they are mundane. Until they are printed on the window. Until you see it on the road – then it does a 180 and turns into genius.

I took that picture and wasn’t going to write about it. But then I got ANOTHER pic tweeted to me (by mirra_photo) and I knew I had to write this article.

Is the following taxi possibly linked to the “3 MISSED CALLS” taxi?

Huh? There is clearly some emotional shit going down here. Did the same (possibly scorned) guy make both of them?

So many questions, but we will never know all the answers.

It’s one of the greatest wonders of the world.

They should enter taxis into that *new* Seven Wonders Of The World thing. Table Mountain should be one, and taxi names should be another.

    3 Missed Calls..

    It’s too awesome.
