World Wide Worx, the research company with their fingers on the pulse of SA’s cell phone data usage habits has ascertained, with careful research and tireless data sifting that, yes, Twitter is the next big thing. They estimate that at least 1 million South Africans are “using the service”.

World Wide Worx MD, Arthur Goldstuck, believes Twitter will be “bigger than Mxit and Facebook”. He said Twitter caught them by surprise. Their initial estimate for the number of South African users was around 100 000, at which point they stumbled upon DJ Fresh’s Twitter feed, the following of which comprises “about 100 000 people”.

It probably wasn’t long after that they upped their guestimate.
