  • Ugandan Press Push It Quite Far With “Bum Driller” Headline

IOL usually keep us fully stocked with a plethora of headline faux pas, what with their penchant for “fingered” politicians. Their liberal manipulation of the english language is usually enough to elicit a few chuckles from even the dullest of tools, even if it is a slightly depressing indictment on the state of journalism in South Africa.

Nevertheless, that old panacea of the hopeful, “It could always be worse”, has come through for us. Our media really could be much worse. They could be the Ugandan media, for example.

    Take this story.

Looks pick a few choice phrases from the text:

    • “notorious bum driller”
    • “shaftmate”
    • “he shattered one Mutamba’s ass.”
    • “he fancied downloading his sperms in my butt”
    • “anaconda-like whoppers”

The reporter is far more concerned with dropping homophobic epigrams than reporting that a man seems to have been raped.

Look out for those bum drillers, if you’re headed to Uganda for business this month, okay?

    [Thanks, Gen]
