Self-cannibalism is not for the faint-hearted. And there are only eight recorded instances of it in the world. Most recently, a man from New Zealand cut off his little finger and ate it. It’s interesting to note that he’s a vegetarian.
The unnamed mentally ill man later described his action as “ultimately, a very stupid idea”. Well that’s perspective, at least.
Want to know how he did it? He allegedly applied a tourniquet to his little finger, cut it off with a saw, cooked it with vegetables and ate it.
He was 28 at the time of the incident, and suffering from depression, insomnia and suicidal thoughts.
The man said he regretted eating his finger but that his bizarre actions were a desperate cry for attention from mental health authorities.
He told the press his current flatmates were curious about the experience.
“They asked me ‘what did it taste like? Does it taste like chicken or pork?”
Unfortunately he couldn’t answer because he hadn’t eaten chicken or pork in such a long time. He’s a Buddhist vegetarian.
