If people keep telling you that drinking alone is a sign of alcoholism, then you either need to drink less, or find a way to make sure that there are people to drink with all the time. The geniuses behind the social network app ‘Let’s Drink Tonight‘ figured the latter choice made more sense too.

I need to be clear that this isn’t meant to sound sarcastic. I am genuinely blown away by this thing. Developers Zephyr Pellerin, Allen Romero, Jeremia Kimelman and Hunter Hastings, working at the TechCrunch Disrupt Hackathon, and all-night coding event, put the app together.

It works by asking you four basic profile questions – “Coolest person I’ve shared a drink with?” and “Favorite drink?” – before registering; the app will then text you if there’s someone around ready to drink. You can toggle whether you’re up for boozing with complete strangers, or if you’d prefer to drink with Facebook friends.

So I mean, yes, it is sort of a recipe for disaster but it’s a good kind of recipe for disaster. The kind with crushed ice and mint leaves in it.
