For all those shallow Hal’s, cheap dates and general sloppy drunks (we all know at least one), this little guy’s for you. The “stay-sober pill”, is still in development stages, but is said to allow you to drink as much as you want and still stay sober as a judge. Or prevent you from getting laid.

Thus far it’s only been tested on mice. Turns out though, hammered mice behave similarly to us when we have a couple too many. When given enough alcohol to make them stumble and fall, and a dose of the drug, the mice didn’t even get a buzz.

The focus of the experiment was on the way alcohol affects glial cells, which make up 90 per cent of the brain. These cells are crucial in the functioning of your immune system, helping to fight infections etc. By shutting off the specific immune response, it stops you from getting drunk, allows you to retain reflexes and doesn’t affect your balance And by you I mean the mice.

Aside from the variety of reasons you’re already plotting to use this for, it will most likely be marketed as a miracle drug to help lightweights power through their lifelong shortcomings as “cheap dates”.

But then who will we laugh at?
