Ian Neale holds the world record for growing the heaviest swede, weighing in at 38kg. Last week, the 68-year-old from Newport in South Wales, received a special video message from Snoop Dogg. The rapper wanted specific cultivation advice in return for some VIP passes for one of his gigs. The record-breaking vegetable grower accepted Snoop’s invitation.
The Welshman has been growing vegetables for 30 years, and specialises in growing extremely large ones.
I grew the heaviest beetroot in the world in 2001, I’ve got the biggest watermelon title, and I’m waiting to hear whether my celery is a record-breaker.
Mr Neale was showing off some of his enormous vegetables at an agricultural show in Peterborough, the day after Snoop’s gig, when Sky News got hold of him for his thoughts on meeting the rapper.
Much to the reporter’s horror, and even though the meeting with Snoop lasted 10 minutes, Mr Neale wasn’t shy to admit the two had shared a smoke, as is customary for Snoop:
Mr Neale plans to keep growing huge vegetables and Snoop now has a new product, Root Grow, to improve the root systems of his plants.
