Jessica Simpson is clearly quite some way into pregnancy – in fact, a gynecologist estimates she’s around 26 weeks along. But sources say she has not been able to find a lucrative enough media vehicle to announce this to the world yet, because she’s lost her star power. This must be very depressing for poor Jess.

A Boston-based gynecologist, Dr Dave David (that’s his name – and he’s not Jessica’s doctor incidentally), predicts that the singer/actress is in her third trimester, and that she hasn’t just put on weight.

The New York Post has been told that Simpson’s manager father Joe is asking for a sum of  half a million dollars for Jessica to confirm her pregnancy. But the feeling from the PR fraternity is that she no longer has the star power to command that kind of sum from any media channel.

What a conundrum. Should she continue to try and cash in on this big news? Or should she save herself the embarrassment of (non-paying) media speculation and just announce it on Twitter already?
